Meet the Team: Priscilla!

Hello and hola! My name is Priscilla. I moved from Mexico to Canada when I was 19 to pursue my Tourism degree with only one suitcase and many dreams to fulfill. My first cultural shock in Vancouver was learning that classes do not get cancelled if the weather is below 8 degrees Celsius. Apparently, you still have to go to work (or in my case, school) whereas back home (where normal days are 40 degrees), you might see on the morning news “no school today” due to “cold weather” of 7 degrees.

Nonetheless, I have been fortunate to make many new friends, colleagues, and chosen family over the past decade. Most importantly, living in a multicultural city has allowed me to learn more from everyone’s background than I did in school, simply by keeping an open mind and understanding that every culture is different. What may seem typical or ordinary to me may be the opposite for someone else. Every day I continue educating myself about something new in the world.

Travelling is my passion, and some of my favorite trips have taken place in the Rocky Mountains (I’ve visited five years in a row - I know, I have to change it up!) and San Miguel de Allende (similar to Spain, but with street tacos). That said, I am excited to plan future travels to Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. Lord of the Rings, here I come!

Working in tourism feels like a dream job because I truly love waking up every day knowing I am part of an industry that welcomes everyone and brings people together. I believe when you can share a travel experience with others, it makes it that much more special, just like travelling with Detours!
