I would never hesitate to go with Detours again... I'm going to Greece in June '17 and hopefully onto Peru and elsewhere later on
What an amazing and adventurous time. I have done gay cruises through (company names removed) before, but Detours was my first ever gay adventure trip. I first did Costa Rica in August 2016 with Miles and James and said then if I loved this I will immediately be signing up for more, including this Thailand trip over the New Year's period with Shane, and coming to Greece in June '17 with Dan, which is now so popular the group is now split into two with Miles also coming along. But this review is about Thailand New Years '16-'17. First off, signing up, the airport transfers (both ways), extra hotel nights, and all other arrival/departure logistics were handled flawlessly. On the first official evening we all met together with Shane and we all got our initial introductions as Shane announced we would all go out for drinks, a surprise complimentary Thai massage, dinner, a local tour around the immediate area, then dinner, and one of many shows you probably won't tell your parents about. The base hotel we were in for the start, and end, the Amara, was first class. Shane got all of us set-up on a private Dropbox account to chat together about anything and he was always available at the drop of a hat to answer any concerns, questions, etc... anyone would have. We travelled around either through tour vans, tuk-tuks, or taxis, and sometimes to some locales we took ferries for which all the tickets were taken care of. Ferries were how we traveled eventually from Bangkok to Koh Samui, as well as onto Koh Phanangan. While visiting historic and cultural sights we enlisted an absolutely loving and beautiful young lady Yeli who guided us through the many sights we saw and you could tell she was just not reading a script, she knows and loves what saw was showing us a nd gave so many insights into the history and lives of her country, at least for me, I found fascinating. Thanks to Yeli, Shane, and the many overly friendy locals and hotel employees, getting around, or figuring out a different/distinct culture was quite simple. Unlike some trips I have taken in the past where everything is planned ahead of time, Detours lets you do what you want, and feel like doing. Shane introduced us to the BTS Skytrain. We took it on New Year's eve to get to our rooftop party. I will have to be critical that I felt it was not all it was hyped up to be. Somewhat underwhelming, but still fun, not Shane's fault at all. Thailand is a country which actually relishes their King, who had recently passed away and the entire country observe s a year of mourning, so there were no fireworks or overwhelming celebrations. It was still a fun evening, don't let me sound like a downer. Just the organization of the facility itself. Moving on.
While in Phangan most of went on a 3+ hour hike. Afterwards we got down to the beach and had a great lunch.
We later flew to Phuket for our final destination before returning back to Bangkok. Wonderful time at the hotel. So much to do. I think it was there my self and another guy went to a Thai Cultural show which was amazing, also a lot of us attending a Thai cooking class where we got to make three dishes and eat them and share them with each other. That same guy who I did the Thai Cultural show with also went to a Muay Thai boxing match where we were joined by two other guys from our group. Later that night most of us went to clubs and 'ladyboy' shows. That's not really what I get into so I opted to head back to the hotel. We flew back to Bangkok for our final couple days. Shane had arranged a champagne party at the nearby W hotel which also was a lot of fun. Afterwards it was off to another cabaret/ladyboy show which due to my ankle I decided not to partake in, but Shane made sure I could and did know how to get back to our hotel. The next day was our final full day including the floating market with Yeli, and our farewell dinner.
Finally, all in all. Besides all the rain, my injury, and illness. I had a great time. Nothing that happened to me had anything to do with Detours. In fact Shane went out of his way, and spent some of his own money, to get me some ankle wraps, lineament, dropped-off and picked-up some laundry, and offered any assistance needed in regards to any medication I needed. Finally on the final day at the time of my departure he was there to see me off.
I would never hesitate to go with Detours again, as I already said, I'm going to Greece in June '17 and hopefully onto Peru and elsewhere later on.
...DO IT NOW! I have traveled with them to Costa Rica, Peru and South Africa and I am already plotting my next adventure.
Another amazing adventure with Detours! I just got home from an incredible trip to South Africa and cannot say enough about the trip. I am so happy that I have had the pleasure of traveling with Dan Clarke and Miles Mitchinson on two different trips and they have become great friends! If you are thinking of booking a trip with Detours, the only advice I can give is DO IT NOW! I have traveled with them to Costa Rica, Peru and South Africa and I am already plotting my next adventure. I am a big fan of Detours and cannot say enough about them. Thanks so much Miles and Dan for the amazing experience!
...my advice is to go for it. I couldn't ask for anything more.
Great Trip! Great travel service to do business with. If you are like me, a bit hesitant to book a tour from a company I found on the web - my advice is to go for it. Detours is easy to do business with, very responsive to any questions or concerns and I had a great trip! I couldn't ask for anything more. Our adventure leader, James, did a great job of making sure everyone in the group had a great trip and took care of any request that came up along the way. I look forward to booking another adventure with Detours in the near future.
I'd recommend Detours whether your going solo or as a couple.
I just returned from a 12 day tour of Costa Rica with Detours. There were 10 of us on the tour plus our enthusiastic and affable tour leader, James. James is a very considerate and thoughtful tour leader, surprising one of the group members with a birthday cake during a sunset cruise. The itinerary offered a lot of flexible excursions for all skill levels including jet-skiing, horseback riding, jet-boarding, ATV tour, snorkeling, etc. Although the wifi was a bit slow in a couple of the accommodations, they were clean and modern. We even had our own private villa for a few days complete with pool, hot tub, etc., which was nice. We checked out a couple of the gay bars while in San Jose and always had plenty of time to venture off on our own if we wanted to. I'd recommend Detours whether your going solo or as a couple.
This was my fourth trip with Detours and as always I had an amazing time.
Let me start off by saying I absolutely love Detours! This was my fourth trip with Detours and as always I had an amazing time. This year I traveled to Spain and had the time of my life. James Langill was the tour leader and he was great. All of the cities that we visited were beautiful! My favorite highlights were, Barcelona for it's charm and historic churches, Granada with an entertaining flamenco show, Seville for the Segway tour and Sitges for the gay beach and great nightlife. And of course the best part of the trip, as always was the group of guys that I met and now call my friends. Thank you Detours and Miles Mitchinson for the fantastic memories over the last four years. Looking forward to my next trip with Detours. I've already signed up for August 2017...can't wait!
I had always been hesitant on taking a group trip but now I can't wait to book another.
Had an amazing time in Thailand! I had always been hesitant on taking a group trip but now I can't wait to book another. Miles was awesome and the guys on the group were great.
You won't regret it for a second.
What can I say about my Detours trip? Amazing doesn't begin to describe it! Being my first solo group tour, I was a little apprehensive. Would I be able to do and see the things I wanted to do? Would I get along with everyone? Would I be getting up at some god-awful hour to be crammed onto a bus with every other tour group in the area? I shouldn't have worried. The guys at Detours have put together a tour that is, bar none, the best out there. There are some planned outings, but most of the time you do what you want and the tour leader, in our case Dan, would bend over backwards (sometimes literally) to make it happen. It felt more like taking a vacation with a group of your best friends rather than with a bunch of strangers. I made some great connections and even better friends. We've even started planning a little reunion later this year. If your even considering booking a trip with Detours, DO IT! You won't regret it for a second.
It was a relaxing but fun vacation at the same time, very laid back atmosphere
I had an amazing time with Detours Group tour, Dan was very accommodating with any request and was fun to be around him, I would recommend Dan as a tour guy to anyone interested, it was a relaxing but fun vacation at the same time, very laid back atmosphere.
I took a chance and am very glad that it was a great one.
I gotta admit this was great. It was intimate and fun, and just everything. I took a chance and am very glad that it was a great one. I'll definitely be traveling with Detours again soon
Seriously, go do it... Then go on your trip and have the time of your life.
If you're reading these reviews to gauge whether you should book a trip with Detours or not, stop what you are doing and go pay your deposit. Seriously, go do it. It will be the easiest thing you do all year. Then go on your trip and have the time of your life. The Detours team will do everything they can to make your trip as effortless as possible. You will have some planned activities, but for the most part you are free to do what you want. You'll then regroup for dinner, but even that too is flexible. Detours management and trip leaders are passionate about what they do and you will notice it as you plan for your trip and while you are there. This is not a packed tour bus going from tourist attraction to the next. You will be part of a small group with a common bond and will make new friends for life.
If you are considering Thailand and are unsure of traveling to an Asian country for the first time, set that fear aside and go. Thailand is a beautiful country with beautiful people. It is very easy to "get around" Thailand as most people speak at least some English, enough to get through any transaction.
Did you pay your deposit yet?
Detours was absolutely great... This was a great first experience for me and I definitely plan on going on another trip
I am normally a very anxious person and for me this was my first ever International trip with a travel group I have never used before and with people I have never met before. So I was very anxious but still wanted to challenge myself to do something new and out of the norm for me. I am so glad I did. Detours was absolutely great. Miles was a great contact person and answered all of my questions in a very timely manner. He really understood what my concerns were and made the effort to help put me at ease. Our trip leader Dan was also amazing. He made the effort to help everyone in the group feel welcome and comfortable. Even if someone was kinda "outside" of the other normal talking circles, he would go to that person and strike up a conversation. He was very easy to get to know and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was comfortable and got a chance to enjoy their time there. With detours we did a variety of things while in Spain. We did walking and biking tours in Barcelona, Sitges, Sevilla, and Granada; several cathedral, palaces, and other landmark tours; met together every evening for dinner; and enjoyed the night life in every city. This was a great first experience for me and I definitely plan on going on another trip and I will use these guys again!
I met some terrific people, saw wonderful sights and experienced wonderful moments. Well done.
I found Detours online while looking for gay travel groups. After two gay riverboat cruises I wanted another trip with gay men, but not one that had everything planned. Detours had the right balance – a variety of age groups, singles and couples, and choices of things to do each day. The trip leader Dan was charming and made sure every member of the trip felt welcomed and included. He went out of his way to meet everyone’s needs and interests. He made us feel like a family. I met some terrific people, saw wonderful sights and experienced wonderful moments. Well done.
We just got back from visiting Spain in October 2016 and can not be more thrilled with our trip
My spouse and I wanted to go to Spain and we checked online gay travel sights and found Detours Travel. We did the usual due diligence to see if they offered the type of trip we were looking for. We wanted a organized tour, with gay men but we did not want to have a trip that planned everything. We found the right trip. We just got back from visiting Spain in October , 2016 and can not be more thrilled with our trip. The trip leader, Dan was fantastic. He made sure each and every member of the trip felt welcomed and totally included. Some guys came by themselves, some were young and some were older. Some were celebrating a recent marriage and others like Dave and myself have been together for 26 years. Dan made sure we all had a say in what we did each day. He gave us options and then he would arrange our day. You could go along or go on your own, your choice. The fun did not stop there. Dan found all the hotspots in the cities we visited. He joined us and truly made us feel like a family. We met some terrific people, learned a lot about history and have wonderful lifetime of memories. This trip met all of our expectations. Well done Miles and Dan. Hope to meet again on another one of your adventures.
I'm already looking forward to my next trip with Detours, you have secured a repeat customer.
Overall, the trip for me was fantastic. I dont have any negative comments to provide. I'd say that Dan, our Global Adventure Leader, was fantastic. Dan made the experience fun for everyone. He did a great job of leading us, spending time visitng with everyone to ensure that everyone was having a pleasant time. Whenever a challenge came up, he was quick to respond and make it a non issue. I was really impressed with how at the beginning of each day he provided us a clear vision of the day ahead, and options to consider.. When I travel alone, I spend a lot of time doing restaurant, trip research and coordinating that its almost like another job. The combination of efforts of you and Dan made this vacation absolutly seamless and relaxing. I was able to spend more time enjoying the sights, sounds, culture and food. It was truly a great adventure and well worth the money spent. I'm already looking forward to my next trip with Detours, you both have secured a repeat customer. Thank you for both of your efforts to make this trip so memorable and enjoyable.
I absolutely loved the 12 day Peru trip I took with Detours
I absolutely loved the 12 day Peru trip I took with Detours in September 2016. All aspects of the trip from start to finish were well thought out and planned well. I was really impressed with the customer service received from Detours; they provided information booklets prior to the trip, they helped organized the airport taxi, provided list of recommended activities to do in Lima (starting point of trip), and the tour leader (James) had a goodbye dinner with a few of us before our flights although the trip was officially over. The customer service provided really made me feel safe and comfortable while travelling to a foreign country. The quality of the hotels exceeded my expectations, the hotels were clean, modern, charming and I often felt like I was staying at hidden gems. The pacing of the trip was excellent. Detours really does strive to give their guest flexibility. I really appreciated that not once did I have to wake up super early to catch a bus. I felt like I was truly on vacation and never rushed, I had all the freedom, I could enjoy the morning and sleep in or I could wake up and explore the city for a bit. None of the activities are mandatory, letting the guest decide on their own what they want to do that day. The way Detours is structured gives their guest the ability to do a full day of activities or take it slower and relax. Some of the highlights for me were the Peruvian cooking class, sandboarding and dune buggy in the desert, taking a boat tour to see hundreds of sea lions and penguins and Machu Picchu. Peru is such a great country to visit, Detours does a great job of highlighting some of the best things to see and do within the country. You really get a great mix of experiences, from wandering through the backpacker city of Cusco, to relaxing in the remote sacred valley, exploring the desert and coast near Paracas and exploring the nightlight in downtown Lima. Finally, I cannot give enough praise for our tour leader James. James has the ability to be extremely organized and prepared but always making the group feel like they are on a stress free vacation. On the trip we were faced with some unexpected local protest that prevented our tour group from exploring the sacred valley by car. James had already organized free massages for the group and cooking and pisco making demonstrations through the hotel the night prior to the protest as a compromise to the originally scheduled plans. I think it is excellent customer service that I didn’t have to ask or worry how my trip would be impacted by the local protest, James was able to offer solutions before I even had a chance to worry. Overall, I think Detours is an excellent option for someone who is looking to explore a new country. Detours really made the trip so easy and fun for me! I was able to explore a new country, see some amazing sights, eat at mind blowing places, meet a great group of guys and I didn’t have to organize or plan a single thing.
Our tour to Greece was magnificent! ...Thank you so much! Continue your excellent work!!! We will be back for another Detours experience!
Our tour to Greece was magnificent! In addition to spending time in Athens, we also visited the islands of Milos, Santorini and Mykonos. So all in all one gets a good feel for mainland and island life (the three islands all offering different charm). A Detours holiday offers a very flexible approach and you can do as much as you desire, from taking guided tours with local experts to simply just lying on the beach. Eating fantastic food (lots of it...) is balanced with several options for physical activity. We visited many restaurants to give you the Greek gastronomy experience. Physical activity involved lots of walking and swimming and kayaking. So, don’t worry about the calories... We were taken to the nightlife options in Athens and on Santorini and Mykonos - great fun! Our tour guide Dan was very efficient and most helpful in taking us through Greece – and clearly had already teased out the good from the bad. Thank you so much! Continue your excellent work!!! We will be back for another Detours experience!
Their trips attract laid back, fun loving and down to earth guys.
Just completed a fun trip in Greece with Detours. Their trips attract laid back, fun loving and down to earth guys. Dan really knows his way around the Greek isles based on a dozen past trips there...very good trip leader. There was never pressure to do things as a group but the things he organized were always compelling...pirate ship in the Santorini caldera, kayaking on the coast of Milos...and of course walking around Athens and seeing the Acropolis up close! I'd go to Greece again. And I'd travel with Detours again.
You and your team really care and take care of us all. I've never been on a trip before where I felt like a friend and not a customer.
After six years of going with other agencies I fully enjoyed all the trips but got tired of the structured aspects of the trips. After doing some cruises/resorts I wanted something more and found you guys. One of my bucket list locals was Costa Rica and I couldn't be happier. I went by myself and ended up getting match-up with a great roommate. I arrived a day early which you took care of with no problem. From our opening there were so many optional excursions to choose from and it didn't matter if you wanted to do it on your own, or if the entire group did it, you and James made it happen I actually lost my ATM/Debit card on the first day and you made me aware not to worry, it will be no problem, and it wasn't. The accommodations were outstanding and by the mid-day of the first day everyone were good friends. I had seen your philosophy about trips and decided if this one was everything it was billed as I would be doing lot more. As it is I am already fully booked and paid for Thailand New year's '17 and Greece June '17. Probably Peru is not too far behind. You and your team really care and take care of us all. I've never been on a trip before where I felt like a friend and not a customer. And you go out of your way to arrange extra night(s) with no problem. Whatever the 'new' destination may be, count me in.
What set this trip apart for me was how well Detours dealt with the unexpected... I'll definitely travel with them again!
I joined Detours for their Peru trip in September 2016. As expected, it was a wonderful trip -- excellent accommodations, delicious food, excellent guides and tours, and a great group of guys -- enhanced by our tour leader's knowledge of life in the country from his time living in Peru. But what set this trip apart for me was how well Detours dealt with the unexpected. Local protests in the country forced the cancellation of one day's excursions due to road blockades in the Sacred Valley. (Yes, we all realized the irony that our Detours tour was experiencing a detour!) While our Detours tour leader, James, was arranging alternate plans, one of our tour members fell ill and required medical assistance (and the nearest doctor was in another town). Without missing a beat, James worked with our hotel to arrange activities for the group while accompanying our comrade to the doctor (literally clearing rocks and tree stumps out of the road so that the taxi could get through!) We ended up having a great day exploring Yucay and enjoying a complimentary massage plus special programs such as a bartending class and a cooking demonstration at the hotel, and our tour-mate got the medicine he needed and fully recovered in time for the continuation of our trip. What at first looked like a day of disappointment ended up being one of the best days of the trip! I highly recommend Detours. I'll definitely travel with them again!
Best two weeks of my year and one of the most memorable trips that I've taken!
Best two weeks of my year and one of the most memorable trips that I've taken! Fun itinerary with a good variety of activities and locales. We got to see a lot without feeling rushed, and there were plenty of chances to strike out and do your own thing if you felt like it. Though, our large group got along well and did most excursions and meals together. I feel fortunate to have met such a great group of guys. Hotel accommodations were comfortable and well located. James was awesome as our tour group leader! Not only did he do a great job with logistics, he also was fun to hang out with and took the time to get to know each of us. An amazing trip all around.
Will definitely go on another trip with Detours!!!
Awesome, Awesome, great bunch of guys and James helped facilitate the group dynamics well. Spain stops were incredible,(hot but incredible). Will definitely go on another trip with Detours!!!
I'll carry the memories of this trip forever. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Spain was fantastic and Detours put together a well-organized, thoroughly enjoyable tour. The trip flew by but by the end of it I felt like I'd known the great guys in my group forever. James is a fantastic leader. I'll carry the memories of this trip forever. Can't recommend it highly enough. I'm pretty sure I'll be a repeat customer.
...you can trust to deliver the best value for your money and a high quality vacation experience that will leave you with a lifetime of memories
Seldom do I feel compelled to write reviews but after our vacation to Thailand with Detours Travel and our guide Miles Mitchinson, I decided I wanted to share our wonderful experiences with anyone who maybe interested in an adventure of a lifetime. This is our first vacation that we have been apart of a group while traveling outside the U.S. and it left a favorable impression on us, so much so, that we are now planning our next vacation to Spain with Detour Travels. We discovered Detour Travels while researching an Asian vacation destination. From beginning to the end of our trip, Miles Mitchinson was a consummate travel guide. His professionalism, timeliness, and helpful suggestions to our questions before our trip, left us feeling confident that we had made the right decision to partake in a group travel experience. While on our tour he continued to impress us with his knowledge of the Thai culture and his ability to speak the Thai language. If Miles did not know the answer to your question(s) he would go out of his way to get you an answer. He was instrumental in making special arrangements for us outside of the daily itinerary (like a tattoo), which contributed to our personal wants and desires during our trip. These qualities among many others shined through Miles personality and truly contributed to a fantastic memorable vacation. So, if your wanting to explore the world, Detour Travels is the company you can trust to deliver the best value for your money and a high quality vacation experience that will leave you with a lifetime of memories that you will always carry with you. Hats off to Detour Travels and Miles Mitchinson for setting the bar in providing exceptional, high quality travel experiences to the gay community. Cheers and happy travels! Loren and Jeff
I have never met anyone who so perfectly embodies the ideal of what hospitality is supposed to be about. On a 10 point scale: 20.
You were very accommodating of my last minute reservation, welcoming and helpful on the front end. I wasn't sure I wanted to do a group trip and you reeled me in beautifully for which I am deeply thankful because it was awesome. James was incredible on the trip. He walked the perfect line between bringing us together as a group and letting us all be ourselves. Super sense of humour, fun to be around, patient, genuinely found a way to connect with everyone, kept everything on track with quiet ease. I have never met anyone who so perfectly embodies the ideal of what hospitality is supposed to be about. He is also just a lovely soul. On a 10 point scale: 20. Thank you for a really great time!
One of the big differences was that it was apparent that you really care about and get to know your customers. Bravo!
Wanted you to know that I very much enjoyed the trip. You did a fantastic job of organizing this trip. From the start, I was very impressed with your website and how you described your philosophy of travel. James was a very nurturing, thoughtful, and enthusiastic trip leader. He made us feel so welcome from the start, and we knew we could count on him. I have done many other organized gay vacations -- (company names removed out of respect). One of the big differences was that it was apparent that you really care about and get to know your customers. Bravo!
This trip exceeded all of my expectations and then some.
The was my first "group tour" type of vacation and it certainly will not be my last with Detours Travel. Peru was my adventure, and I can't say enough of how much of a perfect vacation it was. The groups are kept small which allows for more freedom during the excursions as I never felt like there was a stop watch timing us everywhere we went. Plenty of options were given as far as daily activities and eating options as Miles new all the hidden jewels. At every turn there was a new surprise. That may be in part due to the perfect timing our charming trip leader Miles had. I never worried about anything and I just let the adventure unfold and just left it up to him. Everything was perfectly planned out. This trip exceeded all of my expectations and then some. Detours sets the standard for small group tours. They have the experience and knowledge to lead you on an unforgettable experience!!!
To say the trips are memorable is a huge understatement
AMAZING! I just got home from 12 days in Peru and have to say it was an incredible experience. This was my second trip with Detours, last year I went to Costa Rica, and Miles Mitchinson never ceases to impress. To say the trips are memorable is a huge understatement. Whether you enjoy shopping, eating great food, touring incredible sites, relaxing at top resorts or living like one of the locals...there is something for everyone. I have taken two trips with Detours and within hours of getting home, I am already planning the next one. If you are looking for a truly memorable experience, choose Detours!
This is more than a tour group. I've met 11 new friends across the globe and I'm glad I did it.
Excellent group with everything executed smoothly. Amazing food, jaw dropping scenery, and first class hospitality from the Greeks. This is more than a tour group. I've met 11 new friends across the globe and I'm glad I did it. Kudos to Dan for keeping his cool and being professional, yet amiable.
The group was fantastic. Highly recommend these guys.
I made a last minute decision to join their tour to Greece. I booked it Monday and left on Thursday. I had no idea what to expect beyond some of the things I read in reviews and their social media accounts...but I went for it. It was exactly what I needed. I got a vacation that was fully planned for, but nothing was fully scripted. We had the ability to dictate what we did on a daily basis, but our guide had plenty of options for us to pick from. The group was fantastic. A really fun group of guys. Our trip guide, Dan, was outstanding. He knows what he's doing. He's loved by every vendor in every city and town we went to. Highly recommend these guys.
How soon can I go on another one?
Put your fears to rest. This group can do no wrong! I was a little hesitant signing up my husband and I on a trip to Greece for our 23rd anniversary. The reviews (all of them) seemed too good to be true. Now that the trip is complete, I can safely say that they are absolutely 100% correct. I loved our tour, our tour guide, and every single one of the brand new friends I met on this trip. It was incredible. I travel quite a bit and have been on organized tours before. This one surpasses them all and just leaves you wanting more. Dan was the perfect host as he was friendly, attentive, and considerate of all the different personalities in the group. When my husband got heat stroke he immediately offered to go into town and pick up some PowerAde so he wouldn't become dehydrated. Also as we ate dinner one night down by the water it got a little chilly. Dan walked back to the hotel and grabbed his entire wardrobe to share with us. Is this guy for real? He was just that wonderful. When I travel to new locations I have to do tons of research, plan out all the details, and get everything in order weeks before I go. I was a wee bit stressed when Miles suggested I let all that go and allow his company to take care of those details. After 63 frantic emails, I decided to relax and go with the flow. So glad I did. Dan provided suggestions for activities the night before to the entire group and allowed us to pick. Most of the time we were all excited to hang out with each other and opted for group activities, but it was nice to know there were other ideas available if we wanted something more specific. We were the only couple out of the group of 11 guys from all over the world. Thankfully the personalities clicked right away and there was never any animosities or trouble for the entire trip. I think Dan had a lot to do with keeping our little group running. He was constantly leading conversations, asking questions, and making sure all of us were interacting. I was surprised with how quickly we passed from awkward strangers to comfortable friends. If I had to say an exact moment it was by the time we walked from our meeting at the hotel to the Rooster bar on our first night. By then we were already joking and laughing and picking out nicknames for each other. Detours has done a excellent job creating this tour company. How soon can I go on another one?
Greece has been THE place I've wanted to go my entire life. Detours and Dan made it everything I had hoped it would be. Thank you!
I think you have a wonderful thing going and I will definitely be taking another Detours trip soon. I met some awesome people whom I am sure will become lifelong friends including Dan, who is an exceptional trip leader by the way. He made me feel instantly at ease from the time I met him and I think he is just a good soul. Greece has been THE place I've wanted to go my entire life. Detours and Dan made it everything I had hoped it would be. Thank you!
I wanted to say how incredibly wonderful this whole experience has been.
I wanted to say how incredibly wonderful this whole experience has been. I know that we will be doing one of the tours next year. Also, Dan was amazing. You should be very proud of what you have put together.
I Thank YOU for creating a great travel company for our community.
I'll start off by saying a BIG THANK YOU to DAN and Detours! The Greece trip is/was beyond my expectations! From day one to day twelve of the trip, I didn't have to worry about anything or needed to ask about what to do or see, Dan provided or was with us the whole way. He always gave everyone an option. Dan did an amazing job with preparing, planning and making sure everyone and everything were in order and accounted for on all our daily excursions. He's always available and is able to accommodate any requests from our group. He welcomed me and everyone with open arms. He started as our tour guide on day 1 and by day 12 an incredible FRIEND in my eyes.
I love many things about this trip, from kayaking/snorkeling in Milos, the morning runs on the beach, the group lunches/dinners, the hikes and above all, the people in our group. As we all have similarities, it's the uniqueness of each individual which make a group of 12 guys special. A day after the trip and I am missing the 12-day routines and the friends that I made in Greece. Two biggest things I've learned from this trip through Dan is spontaneity and humanity. Will definitely be on another Detours trip again as some of us have started our discussion on which trip we want to do next with each others (Peru, Costa Rica, South Africa etc. etc. etc.). You and the Detours family have a special and incredible adventure travel company. I Thank YOU for creating a great travel company for our community.
Can't wait for my next adventure!
Great Experience, a must do! Such a life changing travel to Greece. I'm still on cloud 9. Dan made the vacation one of the best I've ever had. Can't wait for my next adventure!
This was a trip of a life time and I can't wait for my next Detours adventure!!
Just returned from the 12 day trip to Greece and it surpassed every one of my expectations.
In the planning phase of the trip, Miles from Detours was so accessible and helpful. He quickly and efficiently answered all my questions and concerns.
Once arrived, I was greeted by our amazing tour leader Dan Clarke. From the first minutes at the hotel, Dan's positive energy and helpful nature reassured any hesitations I had. From there, I met the rest of our great group and we started our adventure.
Dan organized EVERYTHING and ensured incredibly smooth transitions throughout our itinerary. He always presented options to the group which meant that all needs and preferences were considered. He brought us to secret hidden places and organized private tours and activities that allowed us to experience a side of Greece that most never will. From the kayaking and cliff jumping in Milos, to the breathtaking hikes and a private pirate ship in Santorini and the special sunsets in Mykonos...the list could go on and on. This was a trip of a life time and I can't wait for my next Detours adventure!!
We have made friends for life with Detours! It was very difficult to say goodbye to everyone at the end of the 2 weeks
Traveling to Spain with Detours was an amazing travel experience for my husband and I. I was a bit hesitant at first to travel with a group of strangers, but after the 1st day together everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. Miles and James were incredible trip leaders and made sure that everyone was enjoying themselves at all times. I loved that they showed us many things that typical tourists wouldn't know of or get to experience. We have made friends for life with Detours! It was very difficult to say goodbye to everyone at the end of the 2 weeks, but know that we will be traveling with Detours many times in the future! Detours is the only way to travel to have fun seeing the world and connecting with amazing friends around the globe! South Africa is our next destination with Detours in Feb 2016!!
Two thumbs for sure. I highly recommend this tour company.
The Detours Gay Tour Group to Spain was the best trip experience I've had in my life. Since this was my first visit to Spain and Europe with a gay tour group, I was a bit nervous and did not know what to expect. That all changed once I meet the fabulous Miles and James and the other cool guys in the group. Everybody was awesome and I did like the fact it was a smaller group. I felt more like I was part of a big happy gay family.
Detours did a great job with the locations we visited and restaurants. From now on, I will start to book my vacations with Detours. Two thumbs for sure. I highly recommend this tour company.
Been on two Detours Travel group tours - Thailand & Spain - and both have been terrific experiences.
Been on two Detours Travel group tours - Thailand & Spain - and both have been terrific experiences. Not just because the countries are beautiful, but also because Detours Travel make it so. The accommodations, the transportation arrangements, the selection of restaurants, et al, have been thoughtfully and meticulously worked out to be the best available, very often exceeding expectations.
Just completed my third trip and once again, I simply don’t have enough words to describe the fantastic experience
Just completed my third trip and once again, I simply don’t have enough words to describe the fantastic experience gained by traveling with Detours. Having completed the Costa Rica and the Greece trips in prior years, I felt optimistic about romping around Spain with this group, and of course, they did not disappoint. Miles and his trip leader, James built an awesome itinerary for 12 days, mixing different flavors for the average tourist but more importantly providing a more intimate experience of Spain, so unique that you’ll definitely appreciate your visit more. Whether it’s joining in on a flamenco performance in Granada or laying out on the beaches of Sitges or being amazed at the colorful interior of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain is just stunning. And let’s not forget the Spanish men!!! Yes…the rumors are true!!! They are gorgeous!!! =) But the real bonus is the lifelong friendships made. I still communicate with the people I met in Costa Rica and some of us have continued to travel together in Greece and now Spain. I totally support this company and its vision and I plan to continue traveling with Miles and his team for as long as I can.
I would rate this trip a 10+
I would rate this trip a 10+. Dan was exceptional, very charismatic, efficient and a thirst for adventure. Any questions asked, Dan would make you feel like you’re the most important person in the group and if he didn’t know the answer he would get it for you.
The order of the islands visited and the time spent at each one was well planned. Don’t change a thing. Milos was unique starting with the ATV’s. The first ten minutes was almost intoxicating and seeing the caravan driven by my gay brothers was heartwarming. The Greek people are friendly but at Milos they’re over the top. I enjoyed asking a waitress about a certain dish and how it was prepared. She made it sound like a love story blending of food, it sound so erotic I ordered it. Kayaking was another high followed by cliff jumping. Once again Dan outperformed himself by specialty diving, a surprise to us all. Mike (the kayak guide) went beyond the call of duty by bringing a lunch prepared by his family and also producing a short film of the group. I like the guy. Santorini was special in another way. Watching the sunset from the highest peak of the island, another day watching it set from the steps (that go from the top of the cliff to the bottom) while enjoying wine that Dan brought. The boat ride to the volcano crater was something you don’t do very often. Nude swimming from the pirate boat made lasting memories. Meeting Mike and his mother and dining outside his store had an atmosphere all its own. Of course Mykonos was my favorite island. The piano bar was alive, the pianist and vocalist were very entertaining and first class. ‘'JACKIE-O” was my favorite! The energy flowing was unbelievable. Upon returning to Athens our last meal together was at the 360o restaurant. How appropriate for our last gathering to be at a location where we can watch the lighting of the Acropolis. This restaurant also contained energy but it was a subdued energy to be enjoyed.
All the hotels were cozy to excellent. The service good and the people friendly. As for the restaurants, ooooooh those restaurants. So flawless, so well situated the food so good. I can’t praise them enough. I have so many memories, not just of the adventure but of conversations with people from different countries.
Awesome vacation does not EVEN describe how much fun it is to experience a Detours adventure!
Awesome vacation does not EVEN describe how much fun it is to experience a Detours adventure! Great locations, hotels, adventures, food, travel buds, and best of all Miles, Dan, and James go way beyond excellent tour leaders! You will have a blast wherever they go! Peru and Spain, check, check....let's see Greece, Costa Rica, Thailand...can't wait!
I highly recommend Detours for the experience they provide at a great value.
I just finished the tour of Greece and had a great experience.
I LOVE the tour format, with groups no larger than 15. I was traveling with a friend but would be comfortable traveling alone. There is just the right amount of structure, but plenty of room to improvise and do your own thing. You can opt in or out.
Our tour leader, Dan, was fantastic. Dan was a good communicator, was helpful, and accessible all the time. And a good problem solver - for example, when we were on Mykonos about to board a bus to return to the hotel from the beach, the public bus was too full to take everyone and before we knew it Dan had lined up a plan "B" and had arranged alternate transportation.
I thought this tour to Greece was paced well - it began and ended in Athens (guided walking tour ended with a visit to the Acropolis - i recommend visiting the Acropolis museum). Milos was laid back, with time to explore (loved the Kayaking). Santorini had amazing scenery and a memorable boat ride at sunset. Then Mykonos was about the beaches, bars and partying! (plus a half day guided tour of Delos was great)
I highly recommend Detours for the experience they provide at a great value.
This is the best way to travel! We are already planning our next trip with them!
12 Days in Spain was our second awesome trip with Detours! Miles, Dan, and James are the best tour guides ever! So friendly and helpful. They will go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Spain; from the cities, culture, food, tours, activities, new friends and great trip leaders. This is the best way to travel! We are already planning our next trip with them!
They are not only good trip leaders they are fantastic people.
I've been on 2 (Spain 2016 - Greece 2014) amazing trips with this group and could not ask for more. Miles, Dan & James go above and beyond for you. They make you feel welcome and always keep you entertained. They are not only good trip leaders they are fantastic people. They keep an upbeat and positive attitude no matter what happens and always find a way to fill your wants, needs and desires. From Flamenco dancing in Spain to drinking Ouzo on Greek Islands DETOURS should be you number one tour group. I can't wait for the next adventure. I'm thinking Thailand 2017 :)
There are not enough good adjectives to express the wonder of this very special trip, the people I traveled with or the memories I will carry for the rest of my life.
Oh where to begin!?! For my 4th trip with Detours, I was on the very first Spain Adventure hosted by the Ever Effervescent Miles, the Bohemian Dan and the Precocious James. Despite the weather, it was an amazing trek through the best that Spain has to offer. Barcelona with it's Sagrada Familia, Granada and the Alhambra fortress, to Seville and the Alcazar and finally Sitges with the most amusing "Gay Square". This was a surprising journey with the most congenially compatible group of guys I've traveled with yet. The accommodations lived up the the standards set by previous Detours trips and the food was nothing short of stellar. Tapas bars to Cave dinning, all were culinary delights! I had never experienced Flamenco Dancing before, but was enthralled. A certain member of our group did us all proud as he joined in! There are not enough good adjectives to express the wonder of this very special trip, the people I traveled with or the memories I will carry for the rest of my life. If Spain is on your bucket list, this is the trip for you! If it's not, do it anyway! You will not be disappointed.
Looking forward to the next adventure with Detours!
The maiden voyage to Spain with Detours—led by the charming Miles, the free-spirit Dan, and the precocious James. Don’t be fooled this isn’t like any tour you’ve been on—there is an outline of an itinerary that is flexible and can be custom to your interests. Learn the basics of tapas, be wow’d by flamenco dancers, hit up a local gay bar, discover the architecture of the past, enjoy a Tinto De Verano while watching the sunset atop the Metropol Parasol or take a dip in the Mediterranean. #EndlessPossibilities. The lodging was always comfortable and safe. Most of us on this trip were acquainted from previous trips; however, new faces were easy to get to know. Previously, I have been on the Thailand trip with Miles, and the Peru trip with Miles and Dan. Looking forward to the next adventure with Detours!
Overall we loved the trip! I would recommend it to anyone who asks!
The trip leaders - Miles, Dan and James were always willing to assist us in any way and very proactive. The right sense of humor, easy to talk to, and super responsive to any request. We knew exactly what we were doing every day, and even when plans changed we were always kept up to date. Overall we loved the trip! I would recommend it to anyone who asks!
The outstanding customer service started long before the trip...
I was recently on the February 2016 12-day trip to Costa Rica and was thrilled with the experience that Detours provided. The outstanding customer service started long before the trip, when I contacted Miles Mitchinson with a number of questions; he was always prompt to reply and provide information. And right up until the start of the trip, Miles was always there with an answer, and even an e-mail greeting, upon arrival in Costa Rica. Our tour guide, Dan Clarke, was amazing; definitely, the best tour guide I’ve ever had the pleasure to spend my vacation with. Oh so knowledgeable, he guided us through Costa Rica, with broken Spanish ;-), the entire 12 days. By far, though, the best part of the trip to Costa Rica was the experience that was provided. Miles and the Detours’ team have really thought through the memories that they want to provide to their clients. The trip’s itinerary was comprehensive by allowing the travellers, me and 7 other gay men, the opportunity to experience sun on the beach, the luxury of a private villa set on the cliffs of the sea, and, of course, the beauty and tranquility of the Costa Rican rainforest. I enjoyed fantastic accommodations, as well as delicious food in amazing restaurants. If you want to enjoy and experience a true adventure with other gay men with little self-planning, yet also have ability to create your own individual experience in conjunction with the pre-planned itinerary, you definitely need to book you vacation with Detours.
Every day you'll have an experience that makes you think "this is the highlight of the trip, nothing can top this"
Where to start! Costa Rica was a life changing experience for me. It was my first real experience travelling (outside of Canada and the US) and I can't begin to thank Miles and Dan enough for making it so incredible. Their hard work and dedication really shows. If anyone has hesitations about booking a trip with Detours, you should know that there won't be a single moment that you feel uncomfortable being in a foreign country. Every day you'll have an experience that makes you think "this is the highlight of the trip, nothing can top this", and you'll return home with many awesome memories and lasting friendships. (and if you're like me, a wicked sunburn... but you'll only have yourself to blame for that...)
I'll definitely be travelling with Detours again. Can't wait!!
This was my second time travelling with Detours... Will I be traveling with Detours again? YES!
So I have arrived home from another unforgettable trip with Detours. I am currently going through what I can only call "The Detours Depression". It's currently rainy, cold, and I can feel my tan fading with each passing minute. I instantly miss the warm weather, stunning views, and the friends I met during my time in Costa Rica.
This was my second time travelling with Detours. So, having done a trip with them already I had high expectations. They met my expectations and exceeded them! I spoke so highly about them to my best friend that I had convinced him to join me on this tour and I am so glad I did. Not only did I get to have the time of my life, I got to share it with my best friend.
Dan (our tour leader) is incredible. Even though we joking gave him so much trouble he provided us with some pretty incredible memories. Encouraging and organizing such amazing excursions for our group provided fun, laughs, and moments of pure bliss. Thank you Dan for being our fearless leader and giving us the best trip possible.
Will I be traveling with Detours again? YES!
...And I think you should too!
I would highly recommend Detours. It lives up to the hype, for sure!
I was part of the 12 Day Thailand Trip (Dec/Jan). What a great way to spend new years! We were up on a rooftop in Bangkok watching the crowds of people lining the streets below and the fireworks. One of the best New Years memories I will have. After that, we visited Phuket, Koh Samui and Koh Phanghan. Everyone had the option of doing as much or as little as they wanted. In Phuket, we all took a day trip and rented a private boat to go to the Phi Phi islands. Definitely an unforgettable experience just jumping off the boat and taking a swim in the beautiful waters. Every island that we visited was gorgeous with beautiful weather. Each evening, we all would be able to get together for a group dinner. Miles was our tour leader for this trip, and he was simply great. Very engaging and friendly with every member of the group, and very accomodating when there were any issues. He really loves what he does, and it shows. I traveled alone, and met some great guys whom I've still kept in touch with. Had not joined any gay travel groups previously, but I would highly recommend Detours. It lives up to the hype, for sure!
It was a phenomenal 15 days of fun, laughter, and cultural experiences.
So I’ve been back for a couple weeks now and I’m still riding the waves of the 15 day dream in Thailand. This was my first trip with Detours Travel and I am now a fanatic of Detours. I’m already planning my next vacation with them. My trip leader for our 15 day trip to Thailand was Miles. Miles has such an intoxicating personality and passion for what he does. From the very beginning, Miles was so engaged with you; from the time you initiate the trip on the Detours website to days and weeks after the trip has ended. Miles is so incredibly attentive and in tune with you as an individual and as a group. Not once did I ever feel subjugated to partake in any activity. If you wanted to go off on your own adventure, Miles was your biggest cheerleader and made sure all the proper arrangements were made. My trip started off with the most incredible, memorable New Years celebration I will ever have in my life. We spent New Years on a luxurious, high class rooftop bar where we had a 360 degree view of the party on the streets and fireworks exploding all around us as we released white balloons for good luck. This set the bar pretty high for the rest of the trip and at every turn, my expectations were blown. The hotels we stayed at were incredible, the food we at was even more incredible and I left this trip with a lust for more. Miles had everything structured without a structure. The transition from place to place was pretty seamless and smooth. I didn’t feel as if I was being ushered and rushed from here to there to see experience different things. It was a phenomenal 15 days of fun, laughter, and cultural experiences. There was not one time during the trip and will never be a time where I will ever regret the decision to go on this trip. I began the trip with a bunch of strangers and left with friends.
I highly recommend Detours travel if you’re looking for a unique, fun, well-planned adventure.
Our Detours trip to Thailand was a blast. Miles is incredibly friendly, organized and helpful and went out of his way to create a memorable experience. I highly recommend Detours travel if you’re looking for a unique, fun, well-planned adventure.
Detours made the trip easy and very affordable, while at the same time packing in so many great things to see and do
I definitely recommend the Detours guided trip through Thailand!! Not only is Thailand now one of my favorite destinations on the planet, but I am now telling everyone that they NEED to visit this amazing country (Kingdom). Miles was wonderful at showing us the best of the best in a short 15 day time period. Yes, you could stay in Thailand for months and never see all the interesting places, people, and gorgeous scenery. Not to mention the AMAZING food everywhere you look. Detours made the trip easy and very affordable, while at the same time packing in so many great things to see and do. Miles is a fantastic tour guide, he is patient, always upbeat and full of boundless energy. He also didn't play favorites with any of the travelers, genuinely cared about each and everyone on the trip, and always tried his very best to accommodate all during our tour. I am a bit jealous as I would love to have his job!! Thanks again Detours, and if anyone is hesitant about going to the "land of smiles", don't be, just go!!! You will love it.
I did not realize how incredible the trip was going to be
I had a really great experience and all the five star reviews are legit. This was my first time traveling alone and overseas. I had some expectations of what was going to happen, but I did not realize how incredible the trip was going to be. Miles organized the entire 15 days in a way that I felt like I was enjoying the areas like a local. Miles has been to Thailand about 20-30 times, I cant remember exactly and everything from the restaurants, spas, travel (bus, van, airplane, boat, airplane), and events it was all done seamlessly. The hotels were incredible and he did this all on a very small budget. The thing that impressed me the most about Miles is that he had 16 very different personalities on the trip and was able to mesh us all together, he also spent quality time with each of us multiple times. The entire trip was so memorable, fun and within a budget. It was a great experience.
My husband/drag wife and I are already planning our next trip with them...
I LOVE these guys so much. Not only did they DONATE the trip (that we went on and won) to one of my favorite charities: Out in Schools, but I absolutely fell in love with owner/operator Miles and his ease, charm, confidence, and good heartedness. My husband/drag wife and I are already planning our next trip with them... this time on ouw OWN dime!
Beyond Macchu Pichu highlights included Cuzco, the salt flats, and all of our Paracas adventures.
The Peru trip was excellent. We covered a lot of ground which I liked and I felt that in each place we had enough time to take advantage of all that the particular city or area had to offer. Beyond Macchu Pichu highlights included Cuzco, the salt flats, and all of our Paracas adventures. All the hotels were clean, comfortable, and well located.
Dan was an amazing tour leader and he did Detours proud. He had every inch of the trip planned out - scheduling trains, buses, trains, and planes. And there were always multiple activity options everywhere. They were a few guys that wanted to explore various hikes and activities that weren't on his basic list and he made all efforts to accommodate them. It appeared that they appreciated this and it never held back the rest of the group.
The restaurants he chose were all good - I never have to eat guinea pig again! And it was great to have Jamie along for the trip. It helped that he was Spanish speaking and has lived in Cuzco. He knew of places like the bar at the Paracas hostel that made for one of our most enjoyable nights.
I loved this tour, maybe because It didn't feel like a tour but rather a trip with friends...
I loved this tour, maybe because It didn't feel like a tour but rather a trip with friends led by one particularly knowledgeable one, the leader Dan Clarke. Every time I wondered why in the world we were going to some place I'd never heard of we were immersed in a wonder of scenery, nature, history, culture or local marketing. The flexibility of picking which tour or event or restaurant to visit seemed wonderful in theory until it became clear Detours had picked only gems of Peru at every stop, and I'd be a fool not to follow suggestions. Some walk/hiking at high altitude challenged us, but Dan picked a pace that worked for everyone with plenty of time for exploring and exercising our shutter fingers. Just do it.
The best part is that you spend time with some really great people, and walk away knowing you have made some really good friends.
I have just completed the 12 day tour of Peru, and all I can say is that it is AMAZING! The Detours guides are highly professional and skilled and are they knowledgeable about all areas of travel that are explored during the adventure. There are plenty of activities at each location for both solo travelers, or for group travelers. The best part is that you spend time with some really great people, and walk away knowing you have made some really good friends. You should check out Detours Gay Group Travel for your travel needs.
I left the 12 day tour satisfied beyond my expectations
My tour with Detours turned out to be fabulous. Great group of guys touring Peru. The tour allowed the group to make their own schedules and experience events solo and as a group. The tour leader took care of all the details,as well as worked to arrange individual activities outside the group. I left the 12 day tour satisfied beyond my expectations and I highly recommend you consider detours for your next adventure trip. I guarantee adventure, fun times and new friends during your trip. Contact Detours today, you will be glad you did.
It was everything I hoped it to be and more... Thanks Detours
AMAZING! PHENOMENAL! STUNNING! AWE-INSPIRING! BEAUTIFUL! These are just a few of the words I'll use to describe my dream vacation to Greece. It was everything I hoped it to be and more. Detours Travel and Miles Mitchinson (as well as Dan Clarke when our tours overlapped) did everything possible to help make that dream a reality. What they brought to the table were many important traits that included being professional, knowledgable, friendly, personable and much more. There wasn't a single question I was able to pose during the entire trip that Miles didn't know, or wasn't able to quickly find, the answer to. Miles has founded a fantastic gay travel company that was truly a pleasure to be part of during my tour with them. I can not say enough about how wonderful of a time I had or how much Detours contributed to making this trip of a lifetime finally a reality for me (they were also instrumental in helping me arrange an extension to the tour so that I could also go into central Greece for a few days in order to see Delphi and the Meteora Monastaries). I will definitely turn to them in the future when contemplating my next great adventure. Thanks Detours, Miles and Dan!!! – Dalon, Cleveland, OH
I highly recommend traveling with them and will definitely do it again.
What a wonderful experience we had in Greece with Detours Travels. Miles was our tour guide and he was so hospitable, knowledgeable and considerate. I would not have enjoyed my trip to Greece as much if I was not doing it with Detours Travel. I highly recommend traveling with them and will definitely do it again.
I'm so happy that another friend referred this tour company to me and that I took the chance. I will never forget this amazing experience.
Detours was amazing!!! I never travelled on my own before. This was my first major trip and I was really nervous to be going on my own, and then meeting 16 guys that I would be travelling for 12 days with. I was the only girl on this trip and I would highly recommend it. I never once felt out of place. The guys were all very nice and made sure I was part of everything. This was my first trip and I think it will be really hard to top. I made new friends, ate amazing food and the views were breathtaking. Miles is an amazing tour guide. I felt so relaxed and in good hands. He is really easy to talk to and feels like a friend right away. I don't think Greece would have been the same experience without him, and the guys I hung around for 12 days. I miss Greece already and look forward to booking another trip with Detours. I'm so happy that another friend referred this tour company to me and that I took the chance. I will never forget this amazing experience. Thank you Detours!
If you want a no worry vacation in a safe group of men, don't hesitate to join a trip
Last week I returned from 12 days in Greece with Detours. I needed some time after jet lag and a cold to clear my head and reflect back on the trip. It was my first group trip and first Detours trip and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about how Miles ran the tour and looked after us all. As mentioned in the website, we were not all bound to be at a certain place at a certain time every day which gave everyone a chance for breathing space if needed. And if not, you could be on the go from morning til the wee hours if you so chose… Miles had everything taken care of as far as transportation to and from the islands and around Athens. We had some wonderful dinners together and lots of laughs with some new friends and acquaintances. If you want a no worry vacation in a safe group of men, don't hesitate to join a trip with Detours!
Seriously though, you don't even know what kind of foot print you left in my memories here. Thank you :)
As I sit here in the lobby after what I can call one of the best vacations of my life I am filled with so many emotions. Grateful to have had this experience, sad that it's over, and oddly missing the amazing people I met on this trip more than I imagined. As a solo traveller so many questions go through your head. Am I going to get along with these people? What if I don't? Will I like being in a group setting most of the time? Will they like me? When you meet on day 1 so many of these questions get put to rest. You remember that everyone wants to have a good vacation, meet fun people, laugh, and most importantly create lasting memories. The Detours Travel experience does such thing.
Whether you are well travelled, or never travelled before you need to remember there are always bumps in the road. It is the travellers choice to decide if these are bumps or boulders. When you see your tour leader (in this case it was Miles) doing everything they can to make sure that you are happy, trust that you are being looked after. Miles goes out of his way to make sure everyone is happy and when you are travelling with 16 other people you quickly realize that you can't make everyone happy. Yet, Miles still tries to achieve this with much success.
As someone who travels a lot for work, I found it hard to be wowed during my travels. Many times this trip I felt like my jaw was dangling open and looking at views that had taken my breath away. From getting a full group selfie at the Acropolis, or daydreaming on my ATV in Milos as we drove through the picturesque hills, the ridiculously stunning view with spectacular sunsets included from our hotel in Santorini, or the relaxing on the beach, and witnessing the fun nightlife of Mykonos. It was all so spectacular.
So as I sit here and reflect on this vacation I am left with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I want to thank Miles for his hard work, dedication to creating long lasting memories, and for his passion for what he does. I want to thank my fellow travellers for being apart of this experience. We laughed, we cried, it was better than cats.... The musical.. Hehe.. Seriously though, you don't even know what kind of foot print you left in my memories here. Thank you :)
I guess what I am saying is if you are wanting a trusting tour leader, beautiful views, lots of laughs, wonderful new friendships, and an experience like no other?
Your answer is simple.
Yes to Detours Travel
The tour leaders really do go out of their way to make sure that everyone is included and having a good time.
I just returned from a Detours trip to Greece, and had an awesome time. Admittedly, I had reservations about group travel (having never even taken a cruise, let alone a group trip), but the experience was positively impactful. My tour leader, Dan, broadened my horizons and took us on adventures I wouldn’t have considered doing otherwise. Allowing Dan to show us his favorite parts of Greece was like having a local friend to explore with and made the trip that much more fun. He even got me to jump off cliffs and swim through undersea caves. The tour leaders really do go out of their way to make sure that everyone is included and having a good time. Go with the flow, and let Detours take you on an adventure!
I can only explain my trip as an unimaginable amazing LIFE experience.
I just ended my 12 day adventure in Greece with Detours Travel. This was my first time traveling with a group of strangers and I couldn't of asked for a better adventure. I can't say enough positive things about our tour leader Dan, who had a omnipresence through out the trip making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. I can only explain my trip as an unimaginable amazing LIFE experience. At the start of my journey I never expected to walk away with friends and I did just that, including our amazing tour leader Dan. This trip really had something for everyone, everyday and it was all optional. A few of my favorite activities outside of bonding with the other travelers, were kayaking through the Mediterranean Sea, hiking, and laying by the beach. I'm already planning my second Detours adventure and I haven't made it home from the first one. You can't experience the adventure if you don't get on the ride - you won't regret it.
I've been traveling with Detours for the past three years and each trip lives up to the one before it!
Detours is the BEST thanks to Miles Mitchinson! I've been traveling with Detours for the past three years and each trip lives up to the one before it! This year I traveled with Detours to Peru and it was a blast! Highlights of the trip include climbing to Machu Picchu and sand boarding...but best of all were the lifelong friends I made. Thank you Dan for being such an amazing host! Peru goes down as one of my all time favorite destinations. Can't wait for the next one!
It feels like a customized vacation made just for you, and a group of soon-to-be good friends.
My second detours trip, with a third already planned, so you know how much I appreciate Detours and their guides/hosts. Dan and Miles are always fantastic and go out of their way to make sure everyone is happy and enjoying their vacation the way they want. The options they provide are diverse, the groups have always been fun, and the destinations are amazing. It feels like a customized vacation made just for you, and a group of soon-to-be good friends.
I would highly recommend detours travel
I had a wonderful time! I would highly recommend detours travel - miles and dan were professional, warm, fun, and helpful. This is a great travel company.
It was a truly amazing adventure from start to finish.
The trip to Peru was my second with Detours - and I wasn't disappointed! It was a truly amazing adventure from start to finish. We got to experience so much - mountains, desert, beaches, wildlife, Inca and Colonial architecture and culture, great food and drink and of course the magnificent Machu Picchu itself! And what made the trip even better was that I experienced all this with a group of like-minded, fun people. It didn't matter that I didn't know any of them at the start of the trip, we all got along famously and now I have a bunch of new friends! The trip guide, Dan, did a magnificent job. He's knowledgeable, enthusiastic and a great laugh! He went out of his way to accommodate our preferences and requests and made us feel welcome and at ease. Detours trips are well organised, value for money and above all great fun! It can be daunting joining a group tour, especially if you are going solo. However, my advice would be to just go for it and sign up for a Detours trip without delay, you won't regret it. I know that I will be back for many more adventures with Detours in the future!
We had such a great time on this trip to Peru that we have already signed up for 12 days in Spain next year!
We had such a great time on this trip to Peru that we have already signed up for 12 days in Spain next year! Here's why: - The groups are small (15 people). So, our tour guides were able to provide personal attention making sure everyone's needs were met. They make you feel important! - Quaint locations and charming hotels with lots of character. - A host of activities are provided to pick and choose from. You can choose to do things with the group or off on your own. - Miles & Dan knew the areas we visited very well. They were very knowledgable on how to get around, things to see, places to eat, where to find an ATM or pharmacy, etc.... - Miles & Dan were always very upbeat, enthusiastic, always happy and smiling. You can tell that they really enjoy their jobs! - Everyone in our group was so nice and a lot of fun!
Peru was definitely an adventure from start to finish... and I loved every minute of it!
I just got back last week from my amazing 12 days in Peru with Detours Travel. This was my second Detours Trip, the first one being 12 Days in Greece a little under a year ago. Me and my small group had such an amazing time in Greece last year that almost half the group decided to go on the Peru Trip together for a little reunion. And what a reunion it was! Unlike Greece which was more about island hopping, relaxing and partying, Peru was definitely an adventure from start to finish filled with super active treks, hikes, ATV's, Dune Buggies, sandboarding and exploration, and I loved every minute of it! Once again, Miles and Dan both went out of their way to accommodate every single traveler on the trip. As someone who usually likes to research, plan and travel independently, it's so amazing to just show up in a foreign country with a slight idea of your itinerary and just let Dan/Miles lead the way. The group we traveled with was really great especially reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones. It's always lovely traveling and experiencing new things in a foreign country with like minded individuals, definitely creating life long friendships from people all over the world. As a photographer and a foodie, we saw some of the most amazing sights from Moray, to the Salinas Salt Flats, Isla de Ballestas and of course Machu Picchu and ate some of the most delicious food meal after meal. Our motto for the trip was "It's an adventure..." as there were some things I would have never done on my own like ATV'ing through the desert or ride a giant 12 person dune buggie like a roller coaster and then watching the sunset on a sand dune with some local wine from Pisco. As the trip came to an end, I couldn't help feeling a bit sad having to leave this amazing country and go back to reality. But then I thought, if I did just keep on traveling independently, it really wouldn't be the same without Miles/Dan and the group! Detours is offering trips to Spain next year, another top destination on my list of places to go, so that's definitely something to plan and look forward to! ;-)
I am so enamoured of Detours that I have already booked my next excursion with them - Spain in May 2016.
Recently just returned from the Detours Peru trip. This was my second trip with Detours having done Greece in 2014. The Peru trip was amazing. Miles and Dan and truly top notch guides. What I love about Detours is that we are not micromanaged with a non-stop intinerary during our travels, which provides up the time to either hang on our own, do certain activities with the group if we are so inclined, or do some activity on our own. The non-structured tour was a huge selling point for me. However, when we need to schedule something, Dan and Miles are on top of their game. They do their best to make sure we are aware of options in the location. The group I was with pretty much did everything together as we enjoyed each other's company. Although only breakfast is included in the trip, everyone went to dinner together every single night. Dan and Miles researched the local restaurants and always made such excellent choices for our dining pleasure. I am so enamoured of Detours that I have already booked my next excursion with them - Spain in May 2016. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with selecting Detours. Top notch service. Amazing destinations. And quite frankly, I'm traveling with friends and what could be better. Hurry up! What;s holding you back??? Sign up for a Detours trip! You will not regret it.
I really can't recommend them highly enough.
Dan and Miles were perfect. If I had any questions about booking anything they were right there to help me. Dan had lived in Peru for a bit so he knew where all the fun spots were. I had a couple of things I wanted to do outside of the group and they made sure that is was booked and ready for me. They were just the sweetest guys. Miles was super patient with me filling out the paperwork before the trip. Whether you want a really active vacation or a nice relaxing one these guys know how to deliver! I really can't recommend them highly enough. So if you are contemplating going to Peru and want it to be a gay friendly atmosphere then email Miles to schedule your trip!
Have already booked our next trip with Detours...
Just recently returned from the first trip to Peru, and it was amazing! The trip leaders did such an awesome job coordinating everything and showing us around this beautiful country! Machu Picchu is everything I've heard it would be. Have already booked our next trip with Detours to Spain, can't wait! Thanks Detours!!
This was my first Detours Adventure and I must say it will NOT be my last.
This was my first Detours Adventure and I must say it will NOT be my last. Miles and Dan are two amazing guys. My days with them in Peru is unforgettable. The friends you make on these trips are life long and what a great feeling when your back together on a another trip and have past experiences to share. Love All the way. Vic!
It will be the best decision you could make, I know it was for me.
As a third time traveler with Detours, my expectations were pretty high when embarking on this Peruvian adventure. Past trips taught me that our trip leaders are very fastidious with details and behind the scenes planning. This trip was no exception. Every minute was planned to seem unplanned and ran extremely smoothly. The food was always spectacular, the sites awe inspiring, the accommodations more than adequate and the company delightful. Miles and Dan were once again the embodiment of true professionals as well as great fun. My fellow travelers were a great mix of couples and singles that melded well together. I've always said that it makes no difference where you go or what you do, the company you keep will make the trip memorable and these guys did just that. I have been to a lot of countries, but the people of Peru where some of the most welcoming of any I have ever met. From doormen to receptionists to wait staff, all were a delight to deal with. The language barrier seemed non existent with several people on the trip speaking Spanish enough to guide the rest of us through menus and markets alike. The venues we visited bring the allure of the past into the present. Machu Picchu will forever bring back memories of a journey not only to Peru, but the road to Equality for our community as it was there that we heard of the historic Supreme Court decision. What better place than high atop a mountain in the Andes to celebrate such a hard fought victory! My advice to anyone looking to partake in an epic adventure with fellow travel enthusiasts, is to book an adventure with Detours today! Don't think twice! It will be the best decision you could make, I know it was for me.
Best bang for your buck. Thanks for the memories.
Detours did an excellent job in organizing and communicating regarding the adventure. Best bang for your buck. Our guide, Dan, was top notch. Somehow he managed to be attentive to our needs yet remain fun. He was always professional. I've been on other trips but he was the best and he consistently exceeded expectations. Thanks for the memories.
I’m excited at the thought of traveling with them again in the future. So once again, Thanks Detours!
This is my second trip with Detours and once again, the vacation has exceeded my expectations. Seven of us were returning travelers from a previous Costa Rica adventure back in July 2014. The wonderful experience from that trip inspired us to reunite for Greece on June 2015. It doesn’t get any better than reuniting with old friends and meeting new travelers under the Detours banner. The Acropolis is the must see in Athens, but exploring the islands was my absolute favorite. ATVing throughout Milos for 2 days, immersing ourselves among the endless skyscapes surrounding Santorini and enjoying the mellow and jubilant island of Mykonos! Unexpected surprises were our private pirate ship to the warmer springs in Santorini and also a half day trip to the Island of Delos. Lots of hiking opportunities and the views are worth it. My legs may have been tired during the hike, but its totally worth it to explore the beauty of these islands. And it wouldn’t be a vacation without relaxation. There’s plenty of beach time in Mykonos at Super Paradise and Elia Beach. Everywhere we went was simply amazing. And as a Mediterranean food fanatic, I loved all the kebobs, gyros and olive based foods I could get. I pretty much used my entire catalog of positive adjectives to describe the sights and experiences for this trip. And thanks to our trip leaders Dan and Miles, Detours ensures that we immerse ourselves for a more colorful trip experience, more unique than the typical touristy vacation. I’m excited at the thought of traveling with them again in the future. So once again, Thanks Detours!
It was very well organized fun group... I would do it again.
I had a great 12day Gk. Isles June 2015 trip. It was very well organized fun group, with plenty of activities, dinners, kayaking, snorkelling, hiking, swimming , free time, and learning driving ATV/dune buggies all over Milos days. Not forgetting the fun two Jackie O' bars on Mykonos. Enjoyed the leaders friendly group interaction, sense of humor, laughter and most of all contagious enthusiasm. I would do it again.
The trip went far beyond my expectations. Thanks so much guys!
Just got back home from our second tour with Detours from Greece. The trip went far beyond my expectations. Our tour leader, Dan Clarke was again fantastic! He knows all of the best recommendations and great places to visit, dine, drink and just have fun! Our first trip with him to Costa Rica last year was so great that the majority of us from that trip had booked our Greece trip 10 months in advance. It was so great to see our friends we made on that trip and make new friends on this adventure. Miles was doing a tour with another group in Greece at the same time as ours and it was great to finally meet him and all of the guys from his tour a couple of times during our travels. I would so highly recommend Detours Gay Adventure Travel. Dan and Miles are not only great tour leaders, but really great guys who are genuine and care about their guests. So happy to have been a part of two of their tours so far and now ready to book another to Thailand next year! Can't wait!! Thanks so much guys!
Detours always delivers a once in a lifetime trip.
This trip had everything- history, incredible views, great friendships, adventurous activities, and amazing beaches. The trip hits all the must see locations- Mykonos, Santorini, Athens, but also introduced us to the beautiful island of Milos. Exploring Milos on an atv was one of the best days of my life. Dan, our tour leader, is always going the extra mile to add some sparkle to the trip and make everyone's experience a little more special. Detours always delivers a once in a lifetime trip.
This was a great tour, and we'd recommend it to friends. We're looking forward to doing another tour with Detours in the future.
Location: this is what initially sold us on the trip. We really wanted to go to Greece. Neither me or my husband were disappointed. This is a beautiful country. Each island we visited was different, but certainly worth visiting. It's hard to pick a favorite. We went to Mykonos, Santorini and Milos. I loved the beaches in Mykonos - especially the laid-back gay section of Elia. Santorini is stunning - I could not get enough of the views of Fira and Oia perched above the Caldera. There were 2 Detours groups in Greece during this trip, and our itineraries crossed each other on one day in Santorini. Everyone participated in a 4 hour boat ride that our tour leaders (Miles and Dan) put together - it was a really magic evening that ended in a local hookah lounge. Milos was probably the most "traditional" Greek island that we visited. We got to drive ATVs around the island, and spent one morning kayaking from beach to beach. It was a lot of fun. Apart from the islands, the trip also started in Athens. I'd always heard fairly dismissive things about that city, so I was surprised how much I liked it. The parts we went to were extremely walkable, there are many small streets and squares, with open-air dining and cafes available all over the place. Hotels: I thought all of the hotels we stayed at were good. My favorite was Hotel Del Mar in Milos. What a beautiful location. I think the best breakfast was at Areos in Athens. Best location was probably Damiano's in Mykonos. None of these were huge luxury or chain hotels - they were all friendly and had fairly personalized service. The Concept: The Detours website states that its trips are not highly structured, and that itineraries are generated on the fly based on group preferences. In theory, this seemed like a good idea, but we were a little concerned about the execution. We shouldn't have been. Our group, while just 9 people, had fairly diverse interests. Miles Mitchinson - our trip leader, and the founder of the company - did a great job of suggesting activities for everyone, and ensuring that no one felt like their interests were neglected or forgotten. Fellow Travelers: There was a pretty good mix of people on our tour. Most people seemed to be in their 30s through 50s, although there may have been some people in their 20s, and I know there was at least one guy in his 70s. We were all men, but Miles told us that they have had women on their tours before. There were some other couples, but most folks were singles. I think everyone got along fine. Some lasting friendships were definitely formed. Bottom Line: this was a great tour, and we'd recommend it to friends. We're looking forward to doing another tour with Detours in the future
Highly recommended! I'm already planning my next Detours trip...
It was one of the best experiences of my life! Very relaxed and super fun at the same time. I did the Greece trip and Milos was definitely the surprising highlight of the trip. Highly recommended! I'm already planning my next Detours trip...
The whole tour was well organized and very enjoyable. I highly recommend Detours...
Our tour guide Dan was great! He was helpful friendly and accommodating to everyone's requests. The whole tour was well organized and very enjoyable. I highly recommend Detours Travel and look forward to joining them on future adventures.
Perfect vacation. Will have to do this again!
We had an awesome time on our vacation! This is in thanks to the planning and pre-trip handling by Miles, who was always available for our endless questions and concerns. This is also due to our tour guide Dan, who made the trip extremely memorable. This was a small group, but everyone on the trip is now a good friend. Perfect vacation. Will have to do this again!
I will definitely be booking again and highly recommend Detours Travel for anyone that is looking for an unforgettable experience.
I have been telling all my friends that my Detours adventure to Costa Rica was a trip of a lifetime. Miles Mitchinson and our tour guide, Dan Clarke, were nothing short of amazing in putting together an incredible adventure. From the day I reserved my spot with Detours Travel, I knew that I would be in good hands and have a great time. Dan and Miles should be commended on their friendliness, outstanding customer service, attention to detail and commitment to ensuring their guests have the best time possible on vacation. I will definitely be booking again and highly recommend Detours Travel for anyone that is looking for an unforgettable experience.
Already deciding which trip with Detours will be my next...
From the moment I first emailed Detours with some basic questions till the end of my trip (and even after) it has been an awesome experience. The group size was large enough to offer diversity, but small enough to be intimate and personal. The sights and activities were a blast and plentiful, our guide Dan was amazing, and my experience could not have been better. Already deciding which trip with Detours will be my next...Thanks Miles, Dan and Detours! Looking forward to round two....and three...
What a fantastic trip we've had! The different spots that were chosen were dream-like places.
What a fantastic trip we've had! This is the most beautiful country with the most polite people and most interesting culture I've ever seen, hands down. I was lucky enough to have travelled with 3 gals: Miles, Shane and Dan. All of them have been very informative and lovely persons to share a holiday with, they seemed to be our friends rather than coordinators, they are really polite, helpful and professional. The different spots that were chosen were dream-like places. The availability of activities is endless and you're really free to chose to do whatever you feel like doing. I strongly recommend travelling with Detours, I definitely plan continue knowing the rest of the world with them.
I would love to go on another Detours trip, the only problem is choosing the next destination.
It has been two weeks since I returned home from our Thailand trip, and I'm still buzzing on the great experience! Thailand is a great country to visit, and it was made so much better going with our Detours group. Miles had all the information on what activities you could choose to do, the best restaurants and night spots to check out, and great insider information on all of the places we traveled. Our New Years Eve in the sky above Bangkok was truly one of the best ways to ring in 2015. Our group was also fortunate to have Detours two other trip leaders Shane and Dan join us, and anyone would be lucky to have them lead your tour. I would love to go on another Detours trip, the only problem is choosing the next destination. :)
...I'm SOOOOO glad I went. This trip was by far the best vacation I have ever taken...
I am not a fan of New Year's...not one bit, so I decided to go on my second Detours adventure to escape it. I'd had the pleasure of meeting wonderful guys and had an amazing time in Costa Rica during Thanksgiving of 2014. I guess you can say that I like to escape during the holidays, lol. This time around the group was going to be in Thailand. I'll have to admit that Asia was not high on my list of continents to visit but boy am I SOOOOO glad I went. This trip was by far the best vacation I have ever taken. I actually left doing the figures to determine when I can retire in Thailand...I'm only 30! Now let's dish about the experience. This was a unique Detours experience because we had two guides for Thailand, Miles Mitchinson (CEO and founder) and Shane Bigham (adventure guide from the Detours team). Not only did we have Shane and Miles but Dan Clarke, Detours guide in Costa Rica, Peru and Greece, went along for fun. Wow, what an amazing group of gentleman. You really can't go wrong with any of them! Detours is a unique experience. You aren't forced to do anything but instead, you are given options to opt in or opt out. If you want to be lazy by the beach, be lazy. If you want to do a big hike, then let's do it! I make decisions everyday in my professional life and the last thing I want to do is worry about planning a vacation. Miles and Shane made this experience easy. Whether we were exploring the street markets of Bangkok, cruising out on a boat to the Phi Phi Islands or exploring temples with a local tour guide, the experience seemed flawless. If you love amazingly fresh food, amazingly blue waters and beautiful beaches, along with wonderful local people and are interested in a bit of an adventure, I recommend contacting Detours today!
Can't say enough how much I enjoyed the trip & people we met along away.
Top notch tours with 2 fantastic tour guides. Can't say enough how much I enjoyed the trip (Greece) & people we met along away. Partnered or single Detours goes above and beyond to see your memories last a lifetime. Thanks Detours! Extra thanks to Miles and Dan for just being all around good guys!
For me, this was the trip of a lifetime. I look forward to more Detours in the future.
Dan was absolutely fabulous. He is very enthusiastic, loves his job, and was a joy to be around. Manuel Antonio was by far my most favorite stop. It was the most picturesque. The bungalows at La Fortuna were extremely high class and very comfortable. The private villa was a great place to relax. San Jose was a good place to start and stop the best vacation I've ever had. For me, this was the trip of a lifetime. I look forward to more detours in the future.
I would highly recommend a trip with Detours for everyone.
Costa Rica was a beautiful and friendly destination. Would love to go back very soon. Dan, our guide, was very knowledgeable on everything I asked, and I asked a lot :) He made the trip for me. I would highly recommend a trip with Detours for everyone. Hope we are able to schedule another trip in the near future. THANKS
Great way to see Costa Rica for the first time.
Great way to see Costa Rica for the first time. Our tour leader, Dan, made the trip extra special and soooo fun!
This was without a doubt the best vacation I have ever had!
The true measure of a vacation is: would I do it again ? Absolutley! Would I travel with Detours again? I am already planning it! Miles and his co-guide were extraordinary. At no time did I feel ill at ease or unsafe. When glitches occurred as they always do (ours due to weather) changes were made that were seamless to our trip. They were professional at all times, yet at the same time I left knowing I had made not just a travel organizer but a friend. The vacation was extremely well organized yet left me with enough attraction options I always felt in control of my holiday. Detours allows to make the decision of a day at the beach or one of the many tourists destinations available. Everything from the vistas to each and every activity booked was outstanding. This was without a doubt the best vacation I have ever had!
...my second tour with Detours. Yet again, this tour exceeded my expectations of what travel should be.
I was a part of the Greece tour from September 7-18, 2014, and it was my second tour with Detours. Yet again, this tour exceeded my expectations of what travel should be. The structured spontaneity concept that Detours has created for it’s tours makes every one unique for each individual or couple, while still having and experiencing great group activities. This tour covers everything from the ancient history of the Acropolis and Athens, to the laid back island life of Milos, the romance and scenery of Santorini and of course the active beach culture and nightlife of Mykonos! There was never a dull moment on any part of the tour. All transfers between islands and mainland went smoothly. Restaurants were plentiful with great food, excellent quality and no shortage on portion sizes! Accommodations were clean, comfortable and easy access to where you want to go! Thank you again to Detours for yet another memorable vacation, I will be back for a 3rd, 4th and more! I also wouldn’t even hesitate to take the same tours for a second time, as every group would create a different and memorable experience!
A definite must do if you're thinking traveling alone or with a partner.
It was a great experience with Detours for their recent Greece trip. The leaders were fun and very good in helping us with our needs and wants. A definite must do if you're thinking traveling alone or with a partner.
Detours is the perfect way to experience a far off place you only day-dream about in the office.
The feeling I’m left with after this dream destination experience is 1 part Amazing Race, 1 part All inclusive & 100% fun! Detours is the perfect way to experience a far off place you only day-dream about in the office. Along with the breathtaking vistas, life changing cuisine & local history lessons, Detours makes adventure easy and affordable - I would not have been able to check this off my places to see bucket list without Detours!
The guides were awesome - it felt as though you were travelling with a close friend. They were always friendly, knowledgable and expert problem solvers. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for adventure with a dash of relaxation in the sun!!
What began with a group of strangers ended with a group of friends. I am very much looking forward to future detours…
WOW!! What an amazing experience! I had never traveled with a tour group before, and was a little apprehensive about what would ultimately be one of the best times of my life. Miles and Dan (the tour guides, or better described as our "cohorts in fun") truly extended their knowledge and their hearts to make the trip an adventurous, relaxing, educational, and inspiring experience. While each day was open to spontaneity, planned excursions were also always available. Whether I wanted to hang with the group or go off on my own adventure, I felt very safe knowing that Miles and Dan would be but a glance or a text away, if I needed their input or assistance in any situation. It was clear from prior to the trip, and especially once we were all together, that we were in good hands, and great company. What began with a group of strangers ended with a group of friends. I am very much looking forward to future detours …
...our group grew so close that we all want to travel on another Detours Trip together next year! Highly highly recommended!
I just got back from the Detours Trip to Greece (9/7-9//18) the other day and cannot highly recommend it enough. From the pre-planning stages to the end of the trip Miles and Dan were both amazing. While planning the trip initially a few months ago, I was booked to go with my partner at the time, due to some personal issues we had to cancel my partner's portion of the trip. Miles was always so responsive and worked with me swiftly to take care of any refunds and re-booking me as a single traveler. Just from his superior personalized customer service, I could tell that I was going to be in good hands with the trip. As the trip fastly approached, I felt some apprehension about going solo on the trip as I knew that Santorini and the islands had a reputation for being super romantical and I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that by myself. All those fears melted away as Miles assured me that out of the 8 travelers, there was only one couple and the rest were solo travelers or friends. The day we all finally met in person that afternoon in Athens, I realized that I was going to be traveling with some really great people and all those anxieties quickly disappeared. So what's the best way to describe going on a Detour's Trip? It's like traveling with an adventurous group of good friends (that you haven't met yet) that is being led by another really good friend who has happens to know all the best spots to sight see, eat, drink and be merry. We seriously didn't have to think about anything as Miles/Dan just led the way the whole time on a really relaxed easy going timetable. This was definitely unlike any other tour i've been on as it was a very "go with the flow" mentality. Do you guy's want to see this? This is a really cool spot to see a sunset, want to check it out? What type of food are you in the mood for? Alright, I know the perfect place! The thing I enjoyed the most though was the adventure aspect of the trip, this was a very active trip with a lot of exploration, hiking and more. Some of the highlights for me were renting Dune Buggies in Milos, hiking Skaros Rock in Santorini, renting a private Pirate Ship in Santorini and hiking the Caldera/Hot Springs, having our own "sunset happy hours" numerous times, exploring the nightlife and streets of Mykonos and of course all the amazing meals and drinks we had! What really impressed me the most about Detours is that Miles/Dan really aren't just the tour leaders of the trip, they become your friends and eat, drink and experience everything along with the group, and they genuinely care about making sure everyone is having a good time. By the end of the trip, our group grew so close that we all want to travel on another Detours Trip together next year! Highly highly recommended! ;-)
This is one of those life experiences that will make your heart smile. This isn’t the last you’ve seen of me, Detours!
From the very beginning—there was Miles. I can get a bit OCD about planning and over planning, and Miles allayed all of my concerns. Once there I didn’t worry about anything—and I didn’t plan for anything. I think that was key—be open to new people, be open to new adventures. I could go on about the temples, the shops, the nightlife, island hopping, and the new friends, but you have to see it for yourself to believe it. This is one of those life experiences that will make your heart smile. Miles will go out of his way to make this a remarkable trip for you, as he did for all of us. He’s definitely “something.” This isn’t the last you’ve seen of me, Detours!
A truly breathtaking experience... I thoroughly look forward to travelling with them again soon
Gosh, what I can say that’s not already been said about Detours? A quick background on me: I started a journey just under 3 months ago when I quit my job and left my beloved England to go travelling around Asia and Australia. Within my travels I’m hoping to try new experiences, break the mould and hopefully find what makes me happy. Now, having come from a very regimented and somewhat conservative background, I was slightly apprehensive about touring with a group - as you can never be too sure who you’re touring with. My apprehension was soon diminished after meeting Miles and the group on our first day in Bangkok. A delightful group of people I’ve have the pleasure of meeting. Detours starts the adventure in the booming metropolis of Bangkok. Bustling day & night markets, majestic temples, contemporary buildings spliced in between historical landmarks and an effervescent night life – anybody for ping pong? We then ventured to the beautiful islands of Koh Samui & Koh Phangan. Here Miles arranged for zip-lining in the jungle, bungee jumping, elephant riding, a range of aquatic activities, hiking and even feeding wild monkeys. Phuket and the surrounding islands – never had I seen such picturesque beauty. Crystal clear waters and perfect white sandy beaches, all this mixed in with a busy touristic area. It is not a structured tour, so not at any point are there any pressures into doing all the mentioned activities – it’s all your prerogative. Whether relaxing on the scenic beaches, by the pool, visiting the local towns or wanting to participate in the more active activities, it’s all your choice. It’s your trip – you call the shots! Travelling solo, coupled or a group of friends, it doesn’t matter. You will soon get to know each other and bond in a short space of time and will form wonderful friendships – or as I like to call it “My big gay family”. Miles really went above and beyond to make this such a memorable trip. His love and enthusiasm for Thailand is highly engaging and his ability to get things seamlessly organised last minute is remarkable. He even went out of his way to book a yacht to connect us from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan, where he (along with another member of our group, JP “Papi”) paid for the bulk of this added luxury. Never had I heard of a tour operator doing this off their own back before. You really have to appreciate how Miles really wanted to make this trip a memorable one for all. Indeed it was! He even helped me get out of my comfort zone and encourage me to face my fear of heights with bungee jumping and my fear of open water by helping me to go snorkelling. For this I can’t thank Miles enough. As I write this and remember all the incredible experiences I’ve had and amazing people I’ve met and have formed great friendships with, it brings tears of joy to my eyes. A truly breathtaking experience. I’m so blessed to have shared it with them all. Saying goodbye was tough... Gay, bi, straight – it doesn’t matter. Detours offers amazing, memorable and very affordable tours which caters to all types of travellers. I highly recommend travelling with Detours. I even extended my 12 day trip to the 15 days as I was having such a wonderful time! I thoroughly look forward to travelling with them again soon (I’m actually looking into this now!). Detours, Miles and everyone involved, khap koon kap (thank you.)
I highly recommend, even for non native English speaking travelers!
Amazing trip with a great guy. Perfectly organised, with many different activities to discover different aspects of Thailand. A lot of friends made during this trip. I highly recommend, even for non native English speaking travelers!
Beyond Amazing for any gay traveler seeking adventure and fun in a flexible tour.
Beyond Amazing for any gay traveler seeking adventure and fun in a flexible tour. A perfect mix of an urban journey and ocean escapade, all in the company of a small group of like-minded guys. Seriously, it does not matter if you're a solo traveler or going with a partner. With a typical group size between 10-15 people of various age groups, I promise you will become fast friends with everyone on Day 1. I went by myself and felt that I had traveled to Thailand with a group of life long pals. Miles Mitchinson goes above and beyond to insure that each person gets to experience any activity you set out to accomplish. At times, all of us would take a day trip together snorkeling to the gorgeous islands of Ko Phi Phi or a drag show in Bangkok. At other times we break off into smaller groups who may want to experience zip lining, hiking, elephant riding, or simply relaxing on the beach. This is not a group tour that is structured 24/7. Detours allowed us to customize our experience during the trip itself. Traveling with Miles was like having our own personal concierge who takes care of all arrangements. Thailand is gay friendly, beautiful, fluent in English, and very inexpensive (I came back with some of my spending cash). The value of the tour price was exceptional. Just get yourself to/from Bangkok and bring money for meals/drinks (Typical meals were under $10 and drinks often $3 - $5). I discovered Detours on a google search and anticipate returning next year for another adventure. Go Have Fun!
We will be traveling with detours again in the future!
I was a little nervous at first about detours travel, however, after paying for my trip, Miles Mitchinson (the director) contacted me telling me I had over paid by $1600. That made me realize I wasn't dealing with some travel agency that was just after my money, but that I was dealing with honest people.
When my boyfriend and I got to Thailand we found the person Miles had told us was going to be there waiting for us and we arrived at our hotel soon after without any problems.
The next day we got to meet Miles in person and found him to be a knowledgeable, engaging, and fun individual that made us all feel like family. We were a group of 17 people from all over the world and everyone got along. We will be traveling with detours again in the future!
If you are thinking about Thailand, or any trip with a gay company, Detours is definitely the perfect choice.
I had never thought about going to Thailand before this trip. Miles was so patient with ALL my travel questions, bouncing between all 3 of Detours offered locations. At the time my partner and I registered, there was a political situation and Miles assured us that all would be fine. Even though the country was still under martial law when we were there, there was no sign of anything the news tried to portray as bad. All 15 of us got to view Thailand in its true beauty.
Not only did Miles do an amazing job of keeping tabs on 15 guys wandering through a country of 66 million people, but he kept the whole thing together. From vans, to taxis, to planes, yachts, catamarans, hotel rooms, he did it all! To us, it all appeared seamless, even though we knew he fixed it before we knew about it. He was able to organize any event we could think of.
If you are thinking about Thailand, or any trip with a gay company, Detours is definitely the perfect choice. Never once did I feel unwelcome by any of the other travelers and especially Miles. I have made some great friends in a short time, and a lifetime of memories. As I finish writing this, I am reading a testimony of a fellow traveler (Bill). My words cannot compare to his. I cannot begin to thank Miles, Detours Travel, and all of my travel companions enough for such an amazing time. I was able to hold back tears until now, but they are certainly happy ones.
This tour was all around awesome! I will join them again in the future!
This tour was all around awesome! Miles was a great guide and was always available to help out. We had plenty of activities and excursions, but also the chance to go off on your own if you so liked. I really appreciate that Detours included two flights within Thailand to save us from excessively long travel days. I will join them again in the future!
As promised we had an unforgettable experience in this beautiful country... Thanks Detours!
Miles Mitchinson is the affable face and brand of Detours – Gay Adventure Travel and was our guide on our just-completed 12 day trip to Thailand. As promised we had an unforgettable experience in this beautiful country. My day job requires that I organize the schedule of a very busy President and CEO and ensure his international travel is done meticulously, therefore, I really appreciate the highly organized way in which Miles got 14 different personalities to where they needed to be, leaving us with no responsibility other than to have a good time. Thailand is known as a serene country – the land of smiles and after years in Thailand this has obviously ingrained itself in our host. No matter how you chose to interact with him, he was always gracious, genuine and warm and it was amazing to watch. Few people can be that upbeat all the time. He also truly went that extra mile to make the trip memorable and was not worried about improving the bottom line for his company. A case in point was a ferry ride we were supposed to take from one island to another. Instead, he and another traveller (JP) got together and booked a 70-foot yacht to give us a day trip that included snorkeling, fishing lunch and some amazing scenery. The two of them paid for the bulk of that trip themselves and I have never heard of a tour operator doing that for their clients before. We had some great times on the trip. My husband got to tick off zip-lining on his bucket list. We also participated in a Thai cooking class that was a lot of fun, had a day trip to some amazing Buddhist temples in Bangkok, accompanied by a wonderful Thai guide. We also enjoyed little things such as dinner at an amazing roof top restaurant on the beach in Phuket and one of the best sunsets seen to date at a bar at the W Hotel in Koh Samui, where we sat outside near a reflecting pool, high atop the town and watched the beauty that surrounded us. There were also many more opportunities for those that embraced more of the “adventure” aspects of the tour. The hotels we stay at are as promised; they are gay friendly and provide adequate accommodation for your Thai adventure at a low cost. I know that we could not have organized this trip ourselves and done it as cheaply, which is one of the things Detours Travel does the best. Even if we could have got to the locations, we never would have found the sites or the restaurants that Miles knew about and would not have been able to put so much into a 12 day trip. We also would not have had the opportunity to travel with and meet some amazing new people in our lives. Thanks Detours!
In all it was a phenomenal trip. Detours delivers an indelible experience; the memories shall bring many smiles...
Thailand’s allure was an impulsive choice but a prototypical tour had no appeal. A serendipitous Google search led me to Detours Travel’s site. After a few prompt electronic communications with Miles Mitchinson, the Adventure Director (also co-founder and owner) and a week’s time, I was on my way across the world.
First stop was Bangkok- a wild metropolis with calm Buddhist roots. It is home to millions, has murky rivers lined with dilapidated shacks in the foreground of countless skyscrapers and temples all connected by a plexus of streets with vendors offering most wares and services imaginable to mankind. Here vehicles coexist with pedestrians in a state of chaotic fluidity. Bangkok’s sense of lawlessness can easily intimidate most visitors; but our group guide with his command of the language and familiarity of the city made the visit non-threatening and engaging.
Next were the islands and Phuket- the impetus to my visit. They proudly represent Thailand’s glory with majestic unspoiled clear-blue water and white sand beaches despite heavy tourism. Detours Travel offers to arrange an optional hiking trip, elephant riding, wild monkeys feeding, full spectrum of aquatic activities, height-terrifying zip lining and even bungee jumping. Or one could choose to just relax and enjoy Thailand’s natural beauty by the beach or poolside; drink or book of choice at hand. No pressure, no “must do” list; it is all one’s prerogative. Your trip; your choice.
The accommodations were comfortable, clean, safe and pleasant. Air, bus and boat travel to the internal destinations were included. Some meals were included. Daily group dinner arrangements were offered as an optional esprit de corps building activity. The weather is hot and humid.
Accompanied or solo travel is welcomed. This grants the possibility of intersecting with people with diverse histories and the prospect of making long lasting friendships...or not. Again, the latitude of exchange is a personal choice.
And then there is Miles, our guide. He is easy on the eyes, with a ready smile, gentle disposition and intent on making the trip a true adventure. His authentic love of Thailand, its people and its offerings is infectious and he makes every attempt to assure that everyone in the group is enjoying the experience.
In all it was a phenomenal trip. Detours Travel delivers an indelible experience; the memories shall bring many smiles upon recollection. It is a truly a customized group travel adventure allowing for one final exclamation: “Why not? It is Bangkok!” Be warned however, at the end of the trip and once at home, the heart may feel a heavy void for Thailand and the friendships newly made.
If you're thinking about doing this trip, stop thinking, just book now while you can; you won't regret it.
For the best vacation take; one brilliant, patient, fun, enthusiastic guide, and twelve strangers. Visit in comfort various locations in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Dare yourself to do things that you'd never remotely consider doing. Not forgetting to enjoy the luxury of a private chief, take a night swim in one of many infinity pools overlooking the Pacific Ocean or chill in your own cabin under a volcano. Leave to enjoy for 12 days. Result 13 friends and extraordinary memories. If you're thinking about doing this trip, stop thinking, just book now while you can; you won't regret it. Like so many of my companions I'm already booking for a new location next year!
I would sign up for another Detours trip in a heartbeat.
I had an absolutely wonderful time on this trip. It was full of adventure, new places and friends. From the moment you arrive until you leave everything is organized for you. We stayed in a beautiful Villa, fun hotels and extraordinary cabins with views of a volcano. Our leader Dan did an amazing job. He takes care of everything. All you have to do is show up. I would sign up for another Detours trip in a heartbeat.
This tour was a trip of a lifetime. Everything about it exceeded my expectations.
This tour was a trip of a lifetime. Everything about it exceeded my expectations. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. My favorite excursions were canyoneering, white water rafting, and zip lining. There was still plenty of time to relax by gorgeous beaches and infinity pools, and enjoy having a drink or meal with the awesome guys on the tour. It was a great experience getting to know everyone. Dan was a fantastic tour leader. He was organized, accommodating, patient, and a ton of fun. Miles did an awesome job of planning and organizing. He's built a great company. There's absolutely no way, I could have planned a vacation on my own that even remotely lived up to the one Dan and Miles helped me have through Detours. I'm still looking at pictures and feeling great days after getting home. Awesome!!!
This is a trip I will not soon forget and look forward to booking another adventure with Detours!
I have just returned home for an amazing vacation in Costa Rica! This was one of the top vacations I have been able to enjoy! Dan was an excellent tour guide, sharing his vast knowledge of the country and helping us all with translations and experiencing the best adventures ever! White Water Rafting was amazing, as well as Zip Lining over the rain forest. I met 12 amazing new friends and had the time of my life. Miles did a great job of confirming everything and handling all the details for our group! Dennis our personal chef during our stay at the private villa was beyond exceptional! This is a trip I will not soon forget and look forward to booking another adventure with Detours! I am thinking Greece next June! I will also be publishing a blog on my entire adventure so be sure to look for it! If you like adventure travel and enjoy smaller groups, and something different than the typical "Gay Vacation" this is definitely a trip for you and Costa Rica is a great place to experience so many grand adventures from White Water Rafting, Zip lining, Canyoneerying, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Nature Walks, and some great food and great company! You can't go wrong with Detours! Experience the best next time you travel!!!
...I can go on and on, but there are just too many good memories to share.
I signed up for this trip on a whim after discovering Detours on the internet, reading the reviews and talking through with Miles, the Adventure Director. What attracted me was a small group of like-minded gay guys (mostly solo travelers) going on a travel adventure. After finishing the 12 day Costa Rica tour, I was not disappointed. There were multiple activities you can sign up for. Many in our group chose the zip lining, white water rafting, canyoneering/waterfall rappelling. And there were several hikes through the rain forests so we can get up close and personal with the wildlife. With the lush and picturesque rain forests as backdrops, you can’t get any better than that. Our July trip was during the wet season…humid in some areas? Yes, but weather was never an issue for us. Lots of beach, pool, and hot tub time! And not to mention the unexpected bonuses of hot springs, a coffee plantation and others you can only appreciate by being there in person. Accommodations at our 4 locations were great but my favorite was the Private Villa (with the private chef) and the individual shacks at the Arenal Volcano area. Most importantly were the people in our group. I can’t say enough about how wonderful it was to have traveled with such an awesome group of 12 guys to share the experience. Big kudos to our fearless “G”lobal “A”dventurer “L”eader, Dan for guiding us along the way. For any future travelers traveling with Dan, he just simply rocks! As this was his first solo-lead trip, he did such a fantastic job! Not only was he soooooo patient with all of us, he was so authentic in wanting everyone to have a great time. I can go on and on, but there are just too many good memories to share. The best advice I have if you’re waiting to pull the trigger is to just go for it. You can make this trip as adventurous or as relaxing as you want. No pressure! And I guarantee you will have a great time. So, If anyone is inspired to sign up for a Detours adventure tour after reading this, then Bravo!!!..You made the right decision. I wish this company all the success in the world and I hope it continues to expand to serve more gay solo adventurer travelers out there. Pura Vida!
WOW! What an amazing trip ...we could not have asked for a better outfit to do such an adventurous tour with.
WOW! What an amazing trip. From our very first email to Miles to our last day in paradise with our trip leader Dan we could not have asked for a better outfit to do such an adventurous tour with. Dan Clarke was simply wonderful. He has a way of making everyone feel very comfortable and his positive energy is contagious! All of the guys are our tour were fantastic and can not wait to do another tour again with DETOURS!!! Thanks so much guys. I have a lot more to do for my bucket list.
Detours Travel is top notch all the way. Can not wait to go to Greece with Detours!!
12 days of pure paradise! So many adventures and so much fun. Dan Clarke is a wonderful leader. Always smiling, always helpful, always goes out of his way to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Detours Travel is top notch all the way. Can not wait to go to Greece with Detours!!
There were so many highlights - they are too many to mention!
I have come to the end of 12 amazing days with Detours around Costa Rica - I met 12 strangers on day 1 and left with some very good friendships and basic plans in place for one or two of them to visit me in Scotland. This is a stunning country with tonnes to do and pushes your mental and physical barriers. (rafting, canyoning etc) but also some incredible wildlife, scenery and very welcoming people. Dan and Miles bend over backwards to make this holiday worthwhile. When dumbo here, booked his flight for 1 day later than he thought he had, Dan moved mountains to get my ground transport sorted within 10 minutes and with only 1 hour's notice. Miles is super-prompt on answering his messages too! There were so many highlights - they are too many to mention! Bring on Greece and Thailand. Hmmm a Detours Scotland trip would be a great idea - need any local knowledge and help setting that one up?? Travel with Detours and you won't regret it!
...my second trip with Detours and once again I had an AMAZING time!
I recently went to Greece, my second trip with Detours and once again I had an AMAZING time! I really enjoyed the islands, each had it’s own charm and personality. I loved Milos for its serenity and found driving a dune buggy to be thrilling. Santorini had some exciting hikes and stunning views of the sunset. But Mykonos was my favorite island because of its crisp, blue waters and hot men. Yet what really made this trip so special was the group of friends I made. And I can’t thank Miles enough for being such an outstanding tour guide and friend. I’m already planning my third trip with Detours!
First time traveling with Detours and I had a blast!! Couldn't have asked for a better itinerary or a better guide.
First time traveling with Detours and I had a blast!! Couldn't have asked for a better itinerary or a better guide. This was definitely the perfect trip to get me out of my comfort zone, let go and just have crazy fun while exploring the islands, enjoying the breathtaking views and just soak in the adventure. Thank you Miles :-).
...after first traveling to Thailand with Detours I have booked three trips since!
I have traveled solo or with other companies before.. I rarely enjoy a group setting but after first traveling to Thailand with Detours I have booked three trips since! Greece marks my third trip. The country is amazing. The transportation and accommodations were great. We stayed at some very relaxing places that served good breakfast for those that are omnivores.. Also one is welcome to explore the places on their own and enjoy the different cities and islands we stop at. The activities were very fun.. Climbing up a steep hillside made a great workout. I ate so much feta and this one climb made me loose 4 pounds. Detours did a very satisfying job showing me Greece. Every corner is so picturesque. The great thing about Greece you don't have to be a professional photographer to take amazing pics.. It's so stunning everywhere all you have to do is click snap and you'll capture all it's beauty..
It's really the best vacation I've ever taken, and I recommend it highly to anyone. Thanks again...
I can't say enough about what a wonderful trip this was. Costa Rica is an utterly gorgeous country, and Miles and Dan took us to spots that were always beautiful and usually well off the beaten track--they seem to know the country as well as any local! Miles and Dan were great hosts as well--engaging, smart, funny, and always well-informed. They knew great places to eat, the best of nightlife, and hooked us up with terrific side trips that showed off the country and its flora and fauna to dazzling effect. It's really the best vacation I've ever taken, and I recommend it highly to anyone. Thanks again, Miles and Dan! Joe Murphy
an exceptional example of how a guided trip can open your eyes to unique one of a kind experiences you would otherwise not encounter
I don't often go out if my way to sing the praises of others. However, this tour was an exceptional example of how a guided trip can open your eyes to unique one of a kind experiences you would otherwise not encounter. Zip lining through the jungle, playing on the beach, dancing it up in the club, wading through waterfalls, soaking in hot springs, and chilling by the pool of a palatial villa are unforgettable experiences on their own. Although, what truly set this journey/adventure apart was the unparalleled company of our group travel leaders Miles and Dan. I truly felt like I was on vacation with my best buddies. The only thing that I'll miss more than the beautiful vistas of this awesome country are the two dudes that kept me smiling, laughing and enjoying myself the entire time. Muchas Gracias y Pura Vida!!! ~James
...I can't say much more how great this trip was, I can only say that a third trip with Detours is definitely coming soon...
This was my second trip with Detours, and I have to say, the company did not disappoint. The flexibility of the itinerary was what I like most from the trip. The guide gave us an excellent introduction of the southern part of the country, as well as able to do optional activities all together. The accommodations, transportation in between and recommendations about meals were excellent. I might visit the country again in the near future just because of how it was introduced to me. Just like my first trip with Detours, the best thing that I could bring back home were the people I made friends with during the trip, and of course the great new friends that was on my trip, which for sure I will be getting in touch with. I can't say much more how great this trip was, I can only say that a third trip with Detours is definitely coming soon. Kudos to you Miles, another great job well done. Don (USA)
I recommend this tour to everybody who wants to share beautiful moments with friendly people...
Wow...!!! Traveling miles away from home with Miles... What an unforgettable experience... Everything was well organized and already before traveling I got answer to all my questions faster than the speed of light... And the tour itself was amazing... Traveling with a couple of friendly people in such a beautiful country was so much fun... And in the bus there was even an awesome DJ... I was the only European... The rest of the group was from Canada and USA... I recommend this tour to everybody who wants to share beautiful moments with friendly people... And c'mon people from Europe, join Detours as well...
It really was like going away with a group of friends.
I had a fantastic time on the 15 day trip to Thailand with Detours Travel! The tour guide, Miles, did an amazing job of accommodating the group's requests so that we all had an unforgettable holiday. It really was like going away with a group of friends. I will certainly be booking more trips with Detours in the future!
Are you trying to decide between taking a tour, and traveling on your own? I was too…
Are you trying to decide between taking a tour, and traveling on your own? I was too…the tours look like so much fun, but what about the other people in the group? Will the hotels be nice? Fortunately, both turned out great on my Detours trip! My traveling buds and I clicked on the first night, and we became fast friends. We snorkeled, shopped, went out, drank, and laughed together. The best souvenir was coming away with these new friends! I also needn’t have worried about the logistics. Miles did a great job, and earned his keep, pulling all of the other details together. The hotels were great (I’d stay at them again on my own!), transfers between destinations were seamless, and the variety of activities gave a great overview of Thailand (including local spots, touristy spots, budget activities, and fancy activities). I’m kinda picky with these things, but based on my first experience, there will definitely be another Detours trip!
...I was not prepared for how much fun this trip would be!
Let's be honest, Costa Rica is Pura Vida, and just imagine exploring this tropical paradise with a group of gays!!! DeTours will redefine your concept of vacation. Beginning with my initial trip inquiry, Miles proved to be a welcome connoisseur, friend and guide, answering my innumerable questions, easing my concerns, and paving the path for an amazing journey. Even so, I was not prepared for how much fun this trip would be! The culmination of guys from several countries with such diverse backgrounds coming together so experience the abundant beauty, culture, vegetation, animals, flavors and aromas of Costa Rica was truly beyond words and memories I shall ne'er forget. Life begins when you DeTour!!
An exceptional adventure... It was all I expected and more.
AN EXCEPTIONAL ADVENTURE WITH AN UNEXPECTED BONUS. THE ADVENTURE: There is not a lot I can add to all the other positive comments about the experience. It was all I expected and more. The thing that, in my opinion, sets this tour apart from others I've taken, is the amount of discretionary time the participants have. One can choose to just 'chill out' or participate in any of an exceptionally large selection of activities - from relaxed to quite physically challenging - my favourite being Canyoneering. This leads me to a point where I think Detours' Travel Directors excel! With so many activities available, and with the varying tastes of the individuals in the group, the Tour Director was barraged with requests to book many different activities on any given day. From my perspective, it was quite chaotic at times. However, the Tour Director never appeared to be overwhelmed and handled all requests, in an efficient and reassuring manner - even when arranging special times and activities for a single individual. If an activity was fully booked, he would try to make alternate arrangements. In my case, when the ATV tour I wanted to take was fully booked, he arranged, for an extra $10, for me to take the tour alone, even though the ATV tour company normally required a minimum of four people before they would run a tour! Enough.... THE BONUS: I am an older man (so old that I had to convince Miles that I was in good physical shape before he would even allow me to participate in the tour) who is just starting to deal with long-standing questions about my own sexuality. To eliminate any doubts at the outset: I never had any physical relationship with anyone during my tour. However, the bonus, to me, was the incredibly safe environment this trip provided. That and the openness of all the other members of the group, allowed my to explore my issues with men who have dealt with many of their own. Whether it was one-on-one, or in a small group, everyone was understanding and, I'm certain, genuinely supportive, sharing their experiences and helping me approach my questions from perspectives I would never likely have developed without their help. I can't say that everything is clear to me now, but my level of comfort with 'being me' has already been significantly improved and I still have a lot of information to digest. I owe that to the safe environment and the sincerity of the group. Thanks!
Everything from booking and preparing for the trip, to our last night together in Bangkok, was nothing but amazing.
Detours Travel simply rocks' Everything from booking and preparing for the trip, to our last night together in Bangkok, was nothing but amazing. Having a guide that knew the area like a local and spoke the language was perfect. Where else could we have been taken on a hike over the mountains to a secluded beach via an unmarked trail?! just one example of the type of adventure the Detours team will have in store for you!
...totally worthwhile from start to finish. Take this trip and you will have memories for a lifetime...
Excellent adventure! Solo traveller who had a good feeling after a review of the Detours Travel site. And after some brief correspondence with Miles, I was sold. Highly recommend this trip for those wishing to visit an exotically beautiful country with warm and welcoming people. Miles is a very knowledgable and experienced traveller and trip guide who makes everything tick just right. If an issue of any proportion arises, you can count on Miles to fix it immediately. He is genuine and fun making the whole experience totally worthwhile from start to finish. Take this trip and you will have memories for a lifetime…
I am definitely looking at the other trips Detours is offering...just have to decide which one of them will come first!
When I first thought of "group travel" I thought, we'd all have to be ready to get on the bus at 7 am every morning, go sightseeing etc. This is not one of those tours! If you want a relaxed timeline and freedom to pick what you see and what you do at each location, THIS IS IT! The only prearranged schedule is when you travel to each location, which Miles takes care of as part of the package. All of the locations had plenty of activities, when you get there, you decide what you want to do...and Miles will help set it up! This was my biggest concern with group travel, and why I was willing to take my first trip with him. I am definitely looking at the other trips Detours is offering...just have to decide which one of them will come first!
This has truly been one of the best trips I have ever been on. I am already looking forward to our next adventure.
What an amazing experience, Thailand is such a beautiful and amazing country. If this is something that you been thinking of doing it’s a must with Detours Travel and Miles. Miles and his crew went above and beyond with the preparations beforehand and during the trip. If there was ever a problem Miles was able to fit is before the group even knew (Helps to know the local language). We were able to see the country from a local person perspective. From one of the biggest cities in the world to the most beautiful beach sunset you will ever see. Doing this all in a small group setting. We had 6 in our group and already plan to travel again in the future. Everyone in the group had the opportunity to see what they wanted with the flexible schedule and ease of the group. We all got into Bangkok a few days early and Miles had us out site seeing a day early. Thanks again Detours Travel, this has truly been one of the best trips I have ever been on. I am already looking forward to our next adventure.
The only thing I hated about this trip was saying goodbye to all the amazing people I traveled with.
Costa Rica is so serene, green and extremely clean. It is a refreshing beauty of landscapes and oceans. It is a breathtaking place. Traveling with Detours is always an experience in itself. (2nd trip I've taken with Detours). From hiking in the jungles and discovering warm hot spring waters at midnight lit magically with candles and soft rain in the company of new friends are memories made for life. These are few of the surprises Detours had for us. The only thing I hated about this trip was saying goodbye to all the amazing people I traveled with.
I got just the right mix of sun and adventure that I needed and didn't have to plan a thing.
What do you get when you put 9 strangers (gays) together in a van and take them around a foreign land full of jungles, beaches, volcanoes and wildlife? You get a trip of a lifetime! Zip lining, rafting, hikes to Rio Celeste and many meals with beans and rice (it's a Costa Rican staple) are just a few of the things that helped our group bond. I cannot say enough good things about our tour guide. He knew the secrets that only locals knew and ensured that we all had an amazing time. I make decisions all day at work and needed a getaway. I got just the right mix of sun and adventure that I needed and didn't have to plan a thing. That said, our guide was very flexible and this is not a rigid tour which is what made it fantastic for all. If you are interested in an adventure which includes making great new friends, seeing amazing sights and soaking up some sun, then I would highly recommend booking a Costa Rica trip through Detours.
The overall experience was in a word, spectacular.
I would highly recommend Detours Travel. Being my first experience with a organized travel I was a bit uncertain as to how things will turn out. In the end I had nothing to worry about. The tour was extremely well organized and provided an excellent overview of Bangkok and the southern islands. The use of local transportation tuk-tuks, ferries and pickup trucks made for an excellent truly local experience. The hotels were great and the food awesome. The guide was amazing. After a few days traveling with the group itself like being with a group of old friends. The overall experience was in a word, spectacular. I am looking forward to my next tour with gay detours adventure travel.
I would highly recommend Detours Travel and am looking forward to another opportunity in the future to travel with them!
Being a fairly well seasoned traveller travelling on my own, I was used to doing things at my own pace, what I wanted to do and with out any restrictions. This was the first organized group tour trip I have taken and I was a bit hesitant about travelling in this style. I have to say it was the best trip of my life so far! Everything was well organized, but not over organized. We would decide, usually the day before, the events that would take place the following day. The tour leader (Miles) would have a number of options for us and as a group we would all come to agreement on what to do. If there was something you weren't interested in, no judgement was passed, and we'd all try to make a compromise or just do our own thing (this didn't happen often, maybe once for each member during the whole 2 weeks). Being in a completely foreign country on the other side of the world, you have to be prepared for unique situations in terms of eating, transportation and culture! I had no issues with any of these and enjoyed the full immersion into the wonderful world of Thailand. Everyone we encountered on the tour was very friendly, hospitable and eager to make sure we were having a good time. Miles was very down to earth, friendly, easy going and always had an idea in mind of activities to keep us entertained. The rest of the members in the group were just as friendly and easy going. The hotels were all boutique style. They were all clean, well kept, had comfortable beds, great showers and comfy pillows (very important!). Transportation varied from taxies, to a discount airline, local ferries and mini vans. All were comfortable and got us safely to where we needed to go! Tons of options for food and beverage. Don't be afraid to eat the street food. I wasn't aware of anyone having any 'issues' with eating from street vendors. I would highly recommend Detours Travel and am looking forward to another opportunity in the future to travel with them in the future!
My head is full of wonderful images and memories of my time in Thailand. Look forward to future trips with Detours.
I highly recommend Detours Gay Adventure Travel! My travel plans with two friends fell through, so I did an internet search and found Detours. I'm so glad I did. I have traveled and lived outside the U.S. and am comfortable being a solo traveler and meeting new people along a trip. However, Detours provided an opportunity for me to travel with a great group of guys and an incredible guide, Miles Mitchinson. None of us knew each other before we met at the hotel in Bangkok, yet we became fast friends. Throughout the tour, we not only got to know the beautiful country, people and culture of Thailand, but each other, too. The tour provides a nice variety of sights of Thailand, from bustling Bangkok to the gorgeous islands. There’s plenty of activity (exploring temples & markets, hiking to waterfalls, zip lining, Thai cooking classes, daytrips to incredible sights) to downtime on the beaches. I really like how the tours are structured (or unstructured)…general itinerary of places to stay (Bangkok, Ko Phangan, Ko Samui, Phuket), then as a group you decide on specific activities for the days with Miles presenting various options. And, you can elect not to participate and hang by the pool/beach, go shopping, etc., and catch up with the group later. I enjoyed seeing Miles interact with his Thai friends as we traveled from location to location (such as the sweet old lady who ran a small laundry on Ko Samui where we took our clothes for washing). The hotels were all boutique quality and very comfortable (with great pillows…thanks, Miles!). The food is amazing…so fresh and flavorful. Don’t be afraid to eat from the street vendors. Delicious! Lots of fun taking local transportation…taxis, Skytrain, longtail boats, minivans, ferries, and songthaews (pick-up trucks with a roof over the back & 2 parallel padded benches). My head is full of wonderful images and memories of my time in Thailand. Returning home was bittersweet as I missed my new friends and our incredible time together and shared experiences. Look forward to future trips with Detours. Many thanks to Miles and the Detours staff!
This journey was the best travel decision I have ever made; a truly enriching, emotional, amazing and unforgettable experience...
Let me begin my review with a little background. I have been in the US Navy for 22 years and am used to a rigid, pre-planned schedule in everything I do. I was a little anxious when I first booked the 15 day tour because I didn't see a by-the-minute itinerary for the trip. I also need to mention the excellent customer service from the entire staff of Detours Travel. From the first email to the final goodbye in Bangkok, every single member of the staff I interacted with was friendly, professional, and above all knowledgeable. It is very obvious that the company really enjoys what it does. I wanted a trip that would not just give me a few highlights staying in large branded hotels, but I was looking for a true flavor of Thailand. Detours came up with the goods and not only delivered, but exceeded all expectations. I saw and experienced much more than we would have if I traveled on my own. It was interesting and varied, with "breathing space" between activities, no pressure to do any specific activity, and air conditioned transport when needed.
I went on the tour by myself and left with 4 new friends. It was so easy-going. Every time someone was supposed to be there to pick us up, they were there. Our guide (Miles) was excellent and navigated the group effortlessly. From the moment I arrived in Thailand everything went like clockwork. All accommodation, trains, internal flights, treks, tours, river trips and visits to local attractions were discussed then arranged as promised. The city of Phuket sticks out in my mind because it was fun and we felt very safe (i.e. to stumble home drunk at 2 am and not feel any worry) and entertained (can't say much more than that J) The Cabaret was entertaining and funny, I highly recommend going to see it, a very talented group of people. Another highlight was the cooking lesson in Phuket. We learned to prepare four traditional Thai dishes, all of which were delicious... In every location, the additional activities were fantastic, with no shortage of things to see and do. All in all a very enjoyable experience! The general summary of everyone's experiences at the end was that we didn't want to leave.
The trip is an amazing value; 14 nights in cool and unique hotels (which you would never find on your own), transportation to and from the islands, dinners and the optional trips were unbeatable. What really makes the difference though between an okay vacation and an amazing holiday is the people you are with and lest we forget the tour guide. Miles Mitchinson was ours, and he made the entire experience all the more enjoyable because he was responsible enough to make sure everything was coordinated but also down to earth and enjoying the nightlife with everyone. The trip gives you a unique mix of culture, history and travel, and ensures that you squeeze everything out of each place you visit and everyday that you are out there...This journey was the best travel decision I have ever made; a truly enriching, emotional, amazing and unforgettable experience.
So after completing the trip and looking back on the experience, I can without reservation or hesitation say this trip was everything I was hoping for and by far, the greatest trip, no the 15 days of my life. I will be booking a trip to Costa Rica next year!
This trip is excellent value for the money and is suitable for travelers with wide range of abilities and interests.
My partner and I joined Miles, his wonderful colleague, Keri, and a wonderful group of 8 other travellers last month (August 2013) for an amazing 12-day vacation in beautiful Costa Rica. My partner and I had a worry-free trip in terms of payment, planning, arrival, bus travel in Costa Rica, accommodations, meals, tours and departure. Miles and his team took care of it all, and if challenges did arise, they were able to resolve any issues professionally and almost instantly. We were able to enjoy some breath taking wonders of nature and spectacular wildlife. With Miles, we were able to travel to areas that are not mobbed by tourists. Miles is a personable, genuine, down to earth soul who works to get to know everyone in his group and tailor the trip to the group’s interests and requests in terms of meal options (i.e. vegetarian/vegan dining), adventure tours (based on ability/interest) or requests for shopping stops. Miles (and Keri) did a wonderful job of looking after all of the travellers in our group. This is an excellent trip for couples to take as there was never any pressure from Miles to participate in planned activities, and my partner and I were able to enjoy several quiet dinners/evenings on our own. Miles (or Keri) would give us several options regarding tours or activities to choose in our next location. This trip included a range of wonderful accommodations and activities in FOUR different regions to enjoy all Costa Rica has to offer, in terms of volcanoes, rainforest, waterfalls, wildlife and night-life. This trip is excellent value for the money and is suitable for travellers with wide range of abilities and interests. We would definitely travel with Miles and his colleagues again. I will always look back on this trip with a smile on my face and glorious memories of the places we went, the things we saw, the things we did and the people...
Costa Rica is such an amazing and beautiful country. The flora and fauna are as exotic as the people are warm and welcoming. On this adventure, our accommodations were as much a part of the trip as anything else. Starting out in San Jose the hotel was an unexpected oasis in the city. The lodge at the base of the Arenal Volcano is unsurpassed for its views of both the volcano and the wildlife around the pool. Puerto Carrillo bought us to one of the most flamboyant hosts I have ever met, most entertaining! Then it was on to my favorite spot, Manuel Antonio, and Villa Roca. It boasts the most beautiful pool with views of the Pacific ocean! And the best part was it was filled with such eye candy! Our house at Los Aguas was nothing short of stellar. The panoramic views of the surrounding countryside is unmatched. The food along the way was always interesting, filling and affordable. Beans and rice takes on a whole new meaning now. There were some unusual fruit choices, but that's the fun of traveling to new lands, sampling the local dishes. There was always something to fill your time if you were interested. My personal favorite was white water rafting. Not because I'm good at it, which is far from the truth, but because it was so hilariously disastrous! Our guide was ready to drown us all!! Ziplining was amazing and thrilling as well. Our tour guides were perfect examples of patience, inventiveness, knowledgeable and caring hosts. Both Miles and Keri went out of their way to ensure each and every one of us was comfortable and enjoying the time together. From impromptu hot springs outings to turning a night club into our own personal Dance Fever night, they are so much fun to be around! Overall, this trip was a needed respite from an otherwise stressful work life. I will always look back on this trip with a smile on my face and glorious memories of the places we went, the things we saw, the things we did and the people who became my "Pamily"
The great thing about how the tour is set up, even when traveling with a group, you can have some alone time. Or venture off on your own, which made it perfect to experience more then what a tour can offer.
I have done some traveling alone, with family, and with friends. I have never done a tour with 11 strangers I have never met before. That alone was an experience I was searching for. To be honest, I wasn't much excited about Costa Rica but Miles and his co-host were amazing and made me fall in LOVE. The great thing about how the tour is set up, even when traveling with a group, you can have some alone time. Or venture off on your own, which made it perfect to experience more then what a tour can offer. If I had any advice to give future travellers: 1. Please do not travel with any expectations. Don't be so "uptight" YOU ARE ON VACATION! 2. Experience what you can and try to do some things on your own. 3. Pack for every element, but pack light. Don't be afraid to get dirty ;) 4. If you are bringing an IPhone, I would suggest a water proof case. I regret not having one and lost out on many great photo moments. 5. Get Miles dancing, you won't regret it!
I must say that this trip was without a doubt, the BEST experience I've ever had in my entire life.
I must say that this trip was without a doubt, the BEST experience I've ever had in my entire life. Kudos to Miles for doing such a great job! And our host, Keri was absolutely amazing! Keri was so warm and friendly and just always put me at ease every step of the way. Keri and Miles were the perfect pair and always made the trip fun and interesting. Some of the highlights of the trip were, going to see a volcano, waterfalls, beautiful beaches, hiking, white water rafting and ziplining. Although I loved the thrilling activities, beautiful cities and grand accommodations, nothing compared to the 11 friendships that I made over the 12 days. We started out as strangers but by the end of the trip we were a family. So if a high maintenance diva like myself, from NYC that's vegan and not used to hiking or jumping off cliffs loved every minute of this gay adventure tour, then you too will have the experience of a lifetime. I can't wait to book my next vacation with Detours! :)
The tour director was very helpful and understanding of everyone's need, little things that will make one's vacation memorable.
I have done my share of traveling, with family, friends or by myself and I have to say that this tour/group was AWESOME. The tour director was very helpful and understanding of everyone's need, little things that will make one's vacation memorable. I like the idea of a small group, a great chance of getting to know everyone and develop friendship along the way. The accommodation was a good mix but importantly supporting local business which was a great touch instead of staying in big hotel corporation. Every tour with groups require balance, and this one has it. Optional excursions are available everyday, but you are not mandated to attend/join, you can have your own time, go to the beach and do nothing, or shop away from the little stores in every town, you decide. I would say that this experience was one of the best tour I have ever had, and I would like to thank the tour director, Miles and his co-tour guide Keri for job well done, and most importantly I met wonderful, interesting people and very happy to call them my good friends. Thank you. Don
My recent trip to Thailand with Detours tops the charts... my husband and I are planning to travel with Detours from now on..."
Throughout my life I have been fortunate enough to travel to many amazing countries and explore some truly spectacular sites. That being said my recent trip to Thailand with Detours tops the charts. Thailand is obviously an absolutely stunning country however it would not have been the same experience without Detours. This could be credited to our above the top guide. All the special details that were executed to a "T", or the sense of family that grew over our 12 day life changing experience. All of our lodging was up to my husband's and mine truly gay standard. We were able to visit a little of everything from the private beaches (only found due to the fact that our guide spoke Thai) to Lady Boys shows; which would put some of the drag shows in the states to shame. I actually found myself rather emotional when the trip came to an end. Not because my vacation was closing, but because I was leaving this group of people that I had formed such a phenomenal relationship with. Currently, my husband and I are planning to travel with Detours from now on, "COSTA RICA HERE WE COME." To anyone that might have some reservations about this tour company, don't. You would be doing yourself a disservice and lose out on what I like to call an epic vacation. I have included my email address for direct Q&A's. This was my first experience of Detours and I am already looking forward to my next trip with this company.
This was a well planned tour giving a diverse insight into Thailand: from the bustle of the historic part of Bangkok to its more modern side; from the relatively remote island of Ko Pha Ngan (outside of the full moon party time) to the more lively sides of Ko Samui and Phuket; from the east coast to the west coast, with a brief stop in between. Add into the mix a visit to the former capital of Thailand 2 hours north of Bangkok and the itinerary has enough to suit all tastes. I certainly enjoyed it a lot! Meeting other like-minded guys in the company of a very knowledgeable and competent tour-guide provided by Detours added an extra dimension and allowed exploration also of the nightlife Thailand has to offer too, something I probably wouldn't have enjoyed if I had travelled alone or with a travel company less open-minded travel company. This was my first experience of Detours and I am already looking forward to my next trip with this company.

Our guide at Detours made sure we got the best of what we were seeking. So whether you're a tourist, traveler or adventurer I am sure the powers that be at Detours will find a way to make your stay in Thailand one not to forget...
This was an extremely well planned trip. The experience was pretty magical and unique - definitely highly recommend this one!
This was an extremely well planned trip. The experience was pretty magical and unique - from trekking through beautiful jungle, swimming in spectacular waterfalls (all off the beaten path) to enjoying natural hot springs in the dead of night, it seemed like the trip was full of never ending adventure. We also went surfing, ziplining and white water rafting. Each of the accommodations selected by Miles was unique and the food and drink was delicious. Let's just say that I was pretty sad when the trip ended - definitely highly recommend this one!
Great trip and experience. Excellent value for money... Thanks again for a great trip.
Great trip and experience. Excellent value for money. Unlike its competitors, detours actually runs the tours with its own employees, instead of simply subcontracting to others. That made a big difference in my opinion. I especially liked the choice of being as active or lazy as I wanted on the trip. Thanks again for a great trip.
Detours Travel knows their destinations very well, and are equally in touch with their clientele.
Detours Travel knows their destinations very well, and are equally in touch with their clientele. Balance is important while organising group tours, and this trip had an excellent combination of down time, adventure, optional activities, resorts, small locally-run hotels, and socialising. With something for everyone, Detours has hit the nail on the head with their unique and flexible approach. Miles was an excellent and personable tour leader with a positive outlook, sunny disposition, fabulous dimples, and a good sense of predicting clients' needs. He has great stories and local connections in many of the places that we visited so that we were exposed to truly authentic experiences. From going out to sample local nightclubs in San Jose, to organising excursions along the way, Miles was there to provide an intimate and reliable connection. The hotels we stayed in were varied, but all had a distinct sense of being "home" for a few days at a time. Some were small, locally-run, while others were larger resort-style. Still, each offered a unique accommodation experience and allowed for us to meet other travelers and make connections along the way. The food in Costa Rica is generally quite tasty. Miles had a great sense of where to bring us for some excellent meals. Again, a variety of locales made for a unique experience. In two places, we had the opportunity to explore some local bars. This was a great way to meet more people, make connections, and sample the "local charm". The final hotel, situated in a remote area, was a fabulous experience that really completed the trip successfully. It allowed us to relax fully and completely before having to head back to reality in our own lives. After ten days of touring, zip lining, rafting, and socialising, it was great to have a place to relax and soak up some uniquely Costa Rican countryside. It was truly a magical place. Detours Travel has a great approach to relaxed group travel experiences. They have an excellent sense of community and allow for a positive group vibe to flourish. Along the way in Costa Rica, we amassed a small following of fellow travelers who were jealous of our experience and we even managed to have a few join us along the way to share experiences. This is testament to the shared pleasure of our trip to Costa Rica. I look forward to experiencing more fabulous trips with Miles and Detours!
I had a great time... The group was very welcoming and fun. Highly recommend.
I had a great time. The tour was very well organized and Miles, the tour operator, knew exactly where to go and knew about sites that most tourists don't know about. The group was very welcoming and fun. Highly recommend.
The trip was awesome and an incredible value. The tour leader went out of his way to make this trip a success
The trip was awesome and an incredible value. The tour leader went out of his way to make this trip a success. He actually listened to his customers. Thoroughly impressed.
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! This was truly an exceptional experience.
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! This was truly an exceptional experience. You are literally bathed in the sights and sounds and smells of Thailand: from the madness of Bangkok to the tranquility of Phi Phi and Angthong. Words cannot really describe the visual splendour you are confronted with! Thank you Miles for making this trip run so smoothly. And for making my birthday so memorable. I highly recommend Detours Gay Adventure Travel to everybody! Pieter.
This was the highlight of my life, it was so much better than I could have ever dreamed a trip could be.
This was the highlight of my life, it was so much better than I could have ever dreamed a trip could be. The most beautiful group of incredible men we felt like family from day 1. Miles , aside from being a tour guide was so attentive and helpful ,I felt more like a brother than a client. It scares me to think all I would have missed had I gone with any other tour company. Miles really goes above and beyond and I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to follow him around the world! Can't wait to go on another adventure with him next year.
What an amazing time... I cannot stop thinking and talking about the places you brought us to, the people I came across, and the unforgettable time that we had!
What an amazing time... I cannot stop thinking and talking about the places you brought us to, the people I came across, and the unforgettable time that we had! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and nicer people to spend my Christmas and 2013 New Years with! All the best to you!
A definite highlight! The trip really gives one a good feel for the beaches of Thailand and is a mix of pure relaxation and sightseeing.
A definite highlight! I can't recommend the tour leader (Miles Mitchinson) higher - he has a great feel for what people like and would always try to accommodate special requests while making the tour fun for the whole group. The trip really gives one a good feel for the beaches of Thailand and is a mix of pure relaxation and sightseeing.
Having experienced Thailand under Detours’ guidance has made this an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait to continue exploring other destinations with Detours!
I was one of the lucky members of the recent Thailand 2012-2013 trip. For the past couple of weeks I had the opportunity to immerse myself in one of the most fascinating cultures in the world. Detours Travel prepared a wonderful itinerary where –despite their unstructured format- I was offered a flexible journey that allowed me to enjoy countless of activities and explore the most breath-taking landscapes. Our tour guide had a plenty of options for us to do in every destination, always striking a great balance by offering alternatives that were very fun in a group setting as well as allowing me to have quality private time. I was able to enjoy my vacation thoroughly because I could rest assured knowing they were taking care of all the planning, the small and big details… all I had to do was: have a blast! Our knowledgeable and resourceful tour guide, smooth and worry-free transfers from/to all locations, great accommodations, fantastic dining experiences, and money saving deals on excursions were only a few of the many things I was lucky to enjoy on this trip. Having experienced Thailand under Detours’ guidance has made this an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait to continue exploring other destinations with Detours!
