PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
When you visit the Site or the App, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”
We collect Device Information using the following technologies:
“Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies that we use include:
- "Session Cookies" (needed for logging in, strictly necessary)
- Cross Site Request Forgery Cookies (needed for security on the website, strictly necessary)
- Zopim Live Chat Cookie (needed for support chat widget)
- Google Tag Manager / Analytics (needed for tracking traffic)

“Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
“Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.
When registering for a trip, Detours may collect some personal information from you in order to properly provide our services and products. Depending on the product or service required, we may collect your full name, address, birth date, travel insurance details, emergency contact details, gender, phone number, email address, passport details, and allergy information in addition to any other comments you provide during trip registration and email communications. We may also collect your personal data from other sources including travel agents and independent third parties. This information may also be used for follow-up post-trip communication including feedback requests. We refer to this information as “Order Information.”
When you initiate communication via our live-chat feature or "Contact Us" page, we may also collect information which may include your name, email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as "Contact Information"
When you make payments on the Site or the App, these are processed using a third-party payment processor, Stripe, which is PCI DSS compliant and processes all payments on our behalf. Detours does not directly record or save any financial information of our customers. While the majority of payments are made directly in your traveler account, we may accept payments via phone or via the PayNow app. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third party vendors and providers, including payment providers and encourage you to review these practices to learn more about how they handle and protect your personal information. We refer to this information as "Financial Information"
HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any trip bookings placed through the Site and the App (including processing your payment information, making accommodation/activity bookings on your behalf, and providing you with invoices and/or booking confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:
- Communicate with you;
- Screen our bookings for potential risk or fraud; and
- When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.
We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site and the App, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns). Device Information may also be used for the purposes of retargeting advertising via the Google Remarketing services.
We use the Contact Information that we collect in order to respond to inquiries, provide newsletters, and facilitate pre-trip, on-trip, and post-trip communication.
SHARING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, we use Checkfront to power some of our booking processes --you can read more about how Shopify uses your Personal Information here: https://www.checkfront.com/privacy. We also use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site--you can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/. You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. We share information with Stripe, Inc. in order to pay for your requested services and products.
We also provide some of your personal information to our third-party suppliers and vendors in order to administer your accommodation, activities, and tours.
Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.
As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you. DO NOT TRACK
Please note that we do not alter our Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser.
If you are a European resident, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact us through the contact information below.
Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.
When you place an order through the Site, we will maintain your Order Information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information.
The Site is not intended for individuals under the age of 18.
PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
During your trip, photos or videos may be taken of you by your fellow travelers, your trip leader, Detours representatives, or third-party activity operators. These images and videos may be used by Detours to share with your travel group or for marketing purposes. However, if you do not wish to be included in photos or videos please advise your trip leader. While your agreement to be a part of photos and videos is included in your Detours booking conditions, we will make every effort to exclude you from these at your request.
HOW WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SECURE
We have put in place adequate procedures to deal with any actual or suspected personal information breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of any data breach where we are legally required to do so.
Whilst we take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information is secure, we would ask you to be aware that the internet is inherently insecure, so please take precautions when disclosing any personal information online to us.
