Booking Conditions

It's always a good idea to spend a few minutes getting acquainted with our booking conditions prior to signing up for your DETOURS trip.


With only 4 fully-paid travelers required to guarantee a trip departure, it's very rare that we cancel a trip (we average less than 1 per year!). That said, if we must cancel a trip, we will always notify our travelers of trip cancellation at least 60 days prior to trip departure date with the option of a full refund of amount paid, or a transfer of payments onto an alternate trip. Detours also reserves the right to cancel a trip based on situations out of our control which can include political instability, terrorism, natural disasters, etc. We will always give our travelers as much notice as possible if any situation arises that forces a trip cancelation.


We keep it nice and simple:

  • $500 deposit - Non refundable
  • Remaining balance - 100% refundable until 60 days prior to trip departure.  Within 60 days of trip, non-refundable.

If you purchase a comprehensive insurance policy for your trip (which we highly recommend) and you need to cancel for any type of medical or family emergency, the full cost of your Detours trip and international flights may be fully reimbursed to you depending on your policy.

In some cases we can recover some of your paid costs, but this depends on when the cancelation is received and the flexibility of our suppliers For more information on cancellations, please contact us directly.


All published prices are based on twin-share (2 travelers per room). Solo traveler? No problem! We offer two options for our solo travelers:
Roommate Matching:
We will match you up with a person of the same gender to share a room (two separate beds) at no additional cost.
Private Room:
We charge a very reasonable private room fee to give you your own room for the duration of the trip. This fee is different for each trip; please see the dates and prices page for specific fee information for your trip.


We are here to help with any information you require regarding passport and visa requirements in each of the countries we operate in. The responsibility, however, relies on the traveler to ensure the passport is valid for 6 months beyond the trip end date, as well as visas are obtained and valid. We cannot be held responsible for individual passport or visa problems that may arise.


From time to time we run promotions which offer promo codes applicable to DETOURS trips.  The following restrictions apply to all promo codes:

  • May not be combined with other promotions/discounts
  • Are valid for new bookings only
  • Registrations must be made online via


International flights to the destination country are not included in the trip cost.  If you would like assistance with booking your flights we suggest visiting our Insurance and Flights page and filling out the appropriate form to receive a flight quote from our trusted partners at Finisterra.


We definitely aren’t the “big 50-person tour bus” kind of company. We believe the best way to experience a new place is with a more intimate group rather than a parade of people. That’s why our groups range in size from 4 to 15 members plus one trip leader..  This gives everyone lots of opportunity to meet new people and make some new BFF's while not overwhelming our destinations.  Wondering how many people are booked on your upcoming trip?  Just ask!


Occasionally, situations arise that require a change of accommodation, itinerary, mode of transport, schedule, etc. DETOURS will always inform our travelers of these changes as soon as possible as they arise. We cannot be held responsible for major changes forced by circumstances beyond our control (natural disaster, political instability, terrorism, etc.).
