Meet Our Team: Clay!

From the bustling markets of Southeast Asia to the historic streets of Europe, and from the vibrant landscapes of North America to the intriguing cultures of the Middle East, my biggest passion in life has always been world travel. As a wide-eyed child, all I wanted to be was a modern-day Indiana Jones, uncovering hidden gems and unraveling the mysteries of the world.

By the age of 30, I proudly ticked off over 50 countries from my travel bucket list, each one leaving an indelible mark on my heart. This insatiable wanderlust was ignited at the young age of 12, when my grandmother whisked me away from school to embark on a transformative journey around the west coast of Africa. It was there that I learned the invaluable lesson that true education doesn't always happen within four walls.

Since that incredible journey, I've made it a personal mission to spend at least a month abroad every year, immersing myself in the rich tapestry of cultures and landscapes that our world has to offer. This annual pilgrimage has been my compass, guiding me through life's adventures.

My educational and professional journey has been equally as eclectic. Armed with a double major in Business and Anthropology/Sociology, my academic focus on Gender and Sexuality has empowered me to see the world through a unique lens, one that cherishes diversity and embraces inclusivity. Originally bound for law school with dreams of becoming an International Human Rights Lawyer, I discovered that the conventional "desk job" wasn't my true calling.

My next role lead me to the world of Real Estate and Finance, falling into my family business. This turn of events provided me with the flexibility and resources to continue exploring the corners of our magnificent planet, while seamlessly blending my professional pursuits with my unyielding wanderlust.

Now, as a member of the Detours Travel team, I am beyond thrilled to embark on a new adventure. To be able to share the world I've come to know and love with my fellow LGBTQ+ community members is a dream come true. It's a privilege to guide you through the awe inspiring destinations that have left an undeniable mark on my own journey, and together, we'll create memories that will last a lifetime.
