And in case you were wondering, they’re all warm-weather destinations. Winters dragged on long enough right… (or is that just me)? So are you like us in thinking about planning a summer trip pronto?
Despite popular opinion, jumping on social media and searching for the best summer vacation destinations doesn’t always garner the best results. Why not look to a gay group travel company that specializes in unforgettable experiences? Someone like Detours perhaps? 🤭
So we’re counting down some of our favorite summer destinations, and it just so happens we offer guaranteed departures to each one! Why not leave the social media scrolling for someone else and take it from us — these are some of the best places to visit during the summer. ✈️
Without further ado let’s get into it:
6. CROATIA
Croatia is a country located at the crossroads of Southern and Central Europe overlooking the Adriatic sea. The natural beauty of this country is something you have to see to believe. It’s no wonder why Games of Thrones was filmed throughout the country; its cascading waterfalls and azure blue seas are a feast for any traveler's eyes. Plus the medieval architecture will have you transported back into another time. 🏰
But why visit in the summer? Well, if the warm weather and endless beaches aren’t tempting enough, the capital city Zagreb is a perfect mix of tradition and modernity. It makes for an ideal destination for a summer break. Plus there is no shortage of social opportunities between beach parties, open-air clubs, and music festivals! 🏖️
5. GERMANY
Why should you visit Germany in the summer? Let me rephrase that — why should you visit Berlin in the Summer? Because the sunny weather and blue skies bring the capital to life. ✨
Beautiful green parks are found all throughout the city. At some of these parks you’ll find venues for open-air cinemas and outdoor theatres. And the piece de resistance, Berlin is famous for its nightlife and is one of the world’s gay hotspots. Plus if you’re the type to want to experience a warehouse techno party, this might be the time. Berlin’s techno scene exploded after the fall of the Berlin wall. Definitely something to celebrate. 🪩
The Czech Republic is a beautiful country full of rich history which boasts amazing architecture, especially Prague. Lucky for you, Prague is a wonderful city to visit in the summertime. Prague is beautiful to visit any time of year, especially Old Town which is a leftover medieval settlement.
Prague is surrounded by hills and mountains and the Vltava River runs right through the city. Its drool worthy architecture has unique experiences waiting for you around winding alleys.
If you’re a more fair weathered traveler, the Czech Republic won’t break the heat thermometer. Summer in Prague doesn’t climb over 86 degrees F.
3. HUNGARY
Hungary is one of the safest countries in Central Europe, and with over a 1,000 year history — you’ll never be in want of a good story. 📖But if you’re planning to head to Hungary, stopping in the capital city of Budapest is a must.
Budapest is the capital city located alongside the Danube river. There are countless majestic castles and hot springs to explore — and despite what anyone says, having a soak in a hot spring in the summer can help keep your body temperature cool. Plus Budapest boasts an eccentricity with several gay bars and saunas.
If you’re looking for a new summer wardrobe, Hungary is known for high-quality products at bargain prices. So you won’t have to break the bank to enjoy this wonderful country in the summertime. 🌞
2. PERU
Why not use your summer vacation hours to cross some places off your bucket list? Have you wanted to check out the epicness of Machu Picchu? Now is your chance! Besides, traveling in Peru is like walking in history — everywhere you turn there is a ruin ready to be uncovered.
As for the temperature, Peruvian summers are lovely, but not "hot", with the temperatures averaging 68 degrees F, especially in the Andes. And if you don’t know, the Andes are the incredible mountain chain that runs throughout the whole of South America. 🗻
And because Peru is such a wonder to behold, traveling there in the summer offers cooler, drier weather and less crowded tourist spots. If you want to check out Machu Picchu, it looks like summer may be the best time.
1. GREECE
An archipelago that carries so much historical weight, it’s nearly impossible to write about in a blog dedicated to different summer destinations, but I will do my best. 🇬🇷
Greece is the birthplace of democracy, famous philosophers, written works like Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, and the spanakopita. (And if you don’t know what a spanakopita is, you need to stop reading and treat yourself to one.) 🤤
Greece in the summer will have you slapping on the sunscreen and jumping into the Aegean. Greece has the longest coastline and the southernmost country in Europe. Besides, we all know the iconic hillside town of Santorini, with blue and white houses, and how amazing it would be to see it in the summer sunshine.
Plus if you’re a history buff, the summer provides extended hours at many world-renowned archaeological sites which allows for a flexible schedule and small groups. And you’re in luck because Detours offers an 11 day trip filled with structured spontaneity in the middle of the summer!
There are no amount of photos or videos that can prepare you for this captivating country. Greece is one of those countries, who lets face it, is good to visit anytime of the year. 😎
