Egypt sits as one of the the oldest cradles of human civilization, with a vast number of relics, tombs, and archeological sites that showcase the sheer magnitude that ancient Egypt once was. Not only that, but modern-day Egypt has just as much to offer, with the beautiful oasis that cascades along the side of the Nile, the bazaars, and the unique Egyptian culture. If you ever teetered on the edge of whether you wanted to go, think no more as here are the top reasons Egypt should be your next destination.

The History

As one of the oldest human civilizations recognized by scholars and archeologists alike, Ancient Egypt was thought to have coalesced around 3100BC, making it over 5,000 years old. To put this into perspective, Ancient Egypt was as old to the Ancient Greeks as the Ancient Greeks are to us today! This shows exactly how advanced the Egyptians were in the timeline of human history, and the most fascinating part is how well preserved many of its ancent sites are today. From the Tombs in the Valley of the Kings, Karnak, to the ancient city of Memphis; these places have retained much of their original character since well over 4 millennia ago. If you want peer deep into one of humanities earliest existences, Egypt is the place to be.

We visit the Valley of the Kings, Karnak, and the city of Memphis on our 10 Days in Egypt trip.

The Pyramids

This one is pretty much a given... I mean, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Egypt – the pyramids! There is no hiding the fact that the biggest travel bucket list item for most travelers is to visit the Great Pyramids of Giza. These jaw dropping feats of human engineering are the perfect example of how advanced ancient Egyptians really were, from their impressive exteriors to deep inside with their intricate hieroglyphics recording Egyptian history, religion, and way of life. This is by far, the most well known thing surrounding Egypt and will be a must see during your time here.

We tour the Great Pyramids of Giza and Sphynx on our 10 Days in Egypt trip.

The Nile

Being the longest river in Africa (and historically the world), it’s safe to say that both ancient and modern Egypt wouldn’t have existed without the replenishing waters of this 6,650 km long river. Fed from the tributaries of the White Nile and Blue Nile, it has provided Egypt with fertile land all along its banks, where 95% of Egyptians currently live today. If there was one way to truly see the wonder of Egypt from a unique perspective, we suggest taking a Nile cruise on one of the many cruise ships. You will be graced by some notable ancient sites such as Kom Ombo Temple, dedicated to the god Horus, or Edfu Temple, considered the most well-preserved temple in all of Egypt!

We take a cruise down the Nile River on our 10 Days in Egypt trip.

The Bazaars

The shopping districts of Cairo, also known as bazaars, are among some of the biggest in the Middle East, with the Khan al-Khalili Bazaar being Cairo's largest. If you ever wanted to feel completely immersed in the energy and life of the city, this would be the places to be. Get lost in the sounds and intoxicating aromas while you peruse through a plethora of various goods on offer, from lanterns, spices, and various leather goods to delicious street food vendors and coffee vendors. Plan to negotiate your way around the bazaar as most vendors operate on the barter system, which can help get that brass lantern you have been eyeing down to a great price. But be careful, these guys are pros so you will have to work your magic.

The Adventure

There is more to Egypt than just old relics and shopping, there are a ton of fun activities to do also! See the Great Pyramids of Giza from the back of a camel, much like the ancient Egyptians would have done once upon a time. If you are feeling like you have had enough of the sand and desert, take a felucca boat down the Nile River (an Egyptian sail boat) and see Egypt from a different point of view. If you are feeling even more adventurous, then nothing can beat seeing this ancient land from high in the sky on a hot air balloon! These are just a few of the many adventurous things you can do.

We ride on camels near the Great Pyramids and felucca boats on our 10 Days in Egypt trip. Hot air balloon actitivty is an optional activity on a free day.

With so much to offer and in so many ways, from being a cornerstone of history, to its fascinating culture, it’s no wonder that Egypt has been a top travel bucket-list destination for years now. You can't go wrong with traveling to Egypt and it might be time time to consider this as your next jet-setting destination next time you are thinking of taking the leap.
