What It’s Like to be a single traveler with us

As a single traveler on a Detours trip, you’ll join a small group of other travelers who share a love of adventure and exploring the world. In fact, many of our travelers are single travelers, so you’ll never feel like the odd one out. From group dinners to shared experiences and optional downtime to explore on your own, you’ll have the perfect balance of connection and freedom. Plus, our trip leaders are there every step of the way to ensure everyone feels welcomed and included.

1. You’ll Never Feel Alone
   Most of our travelers are single. In fact, around 60% of our travelers travel with us alone, so you’ll have many opportunities to bond with like-minded people who are just as excited about the trip as you are. Shared experiences like exploring new destinations, trying local cuisine, and taking in fun activities make it easier to form genuine connections.

2. Single Supplements are Optional
   We don’t believe single travelers should be penalized for exploring the world on their own. That’s why we don’t make single supplements mandatory. You can opt to share a room with another solo traveler or upgrade to a private room for a little extra privacy.

   Our experienced trip leaders are there to make your journey seamless, fun, and stress-free. They’re skilled at creating a warm, inclusive environment where everyone feels at home—single or not.

Wanting to meet locals?

If your goal is to explore and meet the many fish in the destination you are traveling in, there is plenty of time to go out and meet local guys in the destination. Our trips offer structured spontaneity, meaning that there is plenty of free time to go off on your own if your plan is to connect with the local community. Here are opportunities we have to meet, and spend time with people on our trips:

Included or Optional Activities - Our trips feature a variety of included and optional activities to help you make the most of your experience. Whether you want to bond with fellow travelers or meet locals, these activities offer a fantastic way to connect and have a great time!

Cocktail Bars/Nights Out - Many of our destinations provide opportunities to enjoy the local nightlife. From cocktail bars to lively nightclubs, these outings are a great way to connect with the local community and experience a different side to a destination. Feel free to ask your trip leader for recommendations on places you might want to explore to meet people.

Concerts, Local Events, and Festivals - Not into the bar scene or looking for something cultural? No problem! Our trips often coincide with concerts, local events, or festivals that give you a unique glimpse into the local community and possibly meet some new friends in the process. Whether it’s a daytime activity or an evening event, your trip leader can point you toward some exciting options that suit your preferences.

The Apps - Let’s be honest—we all know what this means! Dating and social apps can be a great way to meet locals during your trip. While they’re widely used, we always recommend exercising caution when connecting with people online. Be mindful of the safety tips provided by your trip leaders and trust your instincts when planning to meet up with anybody online.
