Gay Tours and Travel

The Sept. 2024 Greece trip we took with Detours exceeded all expectations! If you are thinking of a Greek Isle trip, do it! If you are thinking about doing it with Detours, do it! We knew we wanted to do a Greece trip, but a cruise didn't seem a good fit. We found Detours and so glad we did.

We didn't really know what to expect in Greece, but were astounded by the beauty of the place. The day sail around Milos is a highlight. The water is unbelievably beautiful. The Santorini villages are amazing, the gay vibe of Mykonos Town & Elia Beach so fun. The Athens acropolis and Delos tours are much more interesting than expected.

Greece is the star of the show, but Detours did a great job facilitating the tour. No way we could have done it ourselves. Detours takes care of so much of the logistics. All the transfers, dinner spots, ferries, the hotels, etc. The pool at the Milos hotel was a favorite.

Darren the trip leader was fun, engaging, and knowledgeable. He made everyone feel included, always there for questions & help. He was awesome.

I rarely write reviews but I simply had to write one for Detours after returning from their Italy trip. Honestly, the way I found Detours is that I searched for “Gay tour Italy”. And while there were a number of tour groups offering trips to Italy, Detours had a trip that was closest to the dates I wanted to travel. So I booked the trip and hoped for the best! But I didn’t need to worry, and you won’t need to worry either if you book with them. My trip leaders ended up being Miles & Ollie and they were both knowledgeable, professional, helpful, friendly, entertaining, and adorable. They thought of every detail and even included some surprises along the way. I met some great people and made memories that will last a lifetime. I was genuinely sad when it was over. This trip actually meant a lot to me and thanks to Detours, it was everything I had hoped for and more. I can’t imagine booking with anyone else in the future. Now I just need to decide where to go next!

Before the trip, I did not fully appreciate the role of the tour leader. I thought we would have a few group activities and then be completely on our own. That was not the case (unless you wanted it to be that way). Dan, our excellent leader, asked who wanted to do what optional activities and then tried to schedule so that we could do them together. It made the experience so much richer to be with new friends. Also, he planned group dinners most every night. Everyone didn't do every meal, but when I wanted to be with a group and not have to think about where to go for dinner, I could join the group. Same with going out after dinner. It truly was the best of both worlds -- having social time with friends when I wanted it, but also having the freedom and flexibility to explore on my own or have solo time when I needed that. The tour itself was wonderful, but I think this flexibility coupled with the expertise of the tour leader made Detours unique. I absolutely will travel with them again.

We've taken 2 trips with Detours. One to Egypt and one to Thailand & Cambodia. In both cases, our trip leader, Shane, was the ultimate host. We've loved every minute of these trips and will go on another as soon as we can. As I’m sitting in my he Madrid terminal heading back home after my third and equally fabulous trip to Spain. Clay was our trip leader and he is GREAT. He made sure we were all taken care of for any of our needs. He is extremely knowledgeable about Spain and each location had something to experience. We even went to a working olive farm, José, the owner of the farm toured us through the farm. We ended at his home where we met his family who served us a delicious meal. If you’ve never done a Detours trip you’re missing out on a trip of a lifetime. So far I’ve toured Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Spain. While Clay is an amazing leader, the other leaders are equally amazing. Miles, the owner, is easy going and super nice. Book a trip without hesitation and you too will be a return traveler.

While I was initially hesitant of my 1st group tour vacation, the trip was the best I’ve been on! The Detours team handled everything from airport logistics to exchanging currency. Every detail is taken care of and every site worth seeing is seen. Tour leaders Dan and Hend are extremely knowledgeable and super sweet. They were lovingly called Mom and Dad during the trip. Additionally, the guys on tour with me were amazing and now friends for life. I highly recommend Detours for your next vacay. I’m already booking the next trip for later this year with some of my buds from this trip!

The 12-day tour of New Zealand was an absolute adventure from start to finish! Exploring Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, and Queenstown provided a diverse and captivating experience that left us in awe of this beautiful country.

Highlights included ascending the Sky Tower in Auckland, where the panoramic views took our breath away. The wine tour on Waiheke Island introduced us to some of the finest local wines in a picturesque setting. Hobbiton was a dream come true for any Lord of the Rings fan, with its charming hobbit holes and lush landscapes.

The thrill of Zorbing in Rotorua was unlike anything we've ever experienced, adding an exciting twist to our journey. And who could forget the majestic beauty of Milford Sound? Flying back from Milford Sound to Queenstown on a Cessna plane was an unforgettable highlight, offering unparalleled views of the stunning fjords and rugged landscapes below.

Throughout the trip, our tour leader, Chase, went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. From organizing activities to providing insightful suggestions, Chase's expertise and enthusiasm enhanced our experience tremendously.

In conclusion, the journey through New Zealand was nothing short of extraordinary. From its vibrant cities to its breathtaking natural wonders, this tour showcased the best that this remarkable country has to offer. We returned home with memories that will last a lifetime and a deep appreciation for the beauty of New Zealand. Highly recommended for any adventure seeker!

Tim and I had an amazing time on our Detours trip to Costa Rica. This was our first time on an all-male trip, so we did not know what to expect. We have already registered for our second trip with Detours, so you know where this review is going. Everything leading up to the trip was handled with professionalism and ease by Detours. That same vibe continued once the trip started. Brandon, our trip leader, was high-energy, fun, kind, inclusive, organized, connected, and on top of his game. He did not miss a beat, all details were attended to, and he made the trip enjoyable for all. Clay was equally kind and fun, and we look forward to one of his guided trips in the future. Costa Rica is a beautiful country. We loved the variety of our locations (the beach, the mountains, the hot springs / Volcano). A little bit of everything was perfect. We participated in so many unforgettable activities (ziplining, Tarzan swing, ATV, white-water rafting, canyoneering, sunset cruises, beaches, waterfalls, pool parties, park tours, . . . ) that filled our days and brought us even closer to the group of guys we traveled with. The beauty is you get to choose your own adventure. Do it all, or do nothing, no pressure. If that is not enough, you get to experience it all with a diverse group of men from across the globe. The friendships and connections we made were easy even for introverts and heightened our positive experiences. We hope to continue these friendships in our future travels.
